View Full Version : New MT Force Sm-1 Barrel Kit!!
So I'm at Cape Cod Paintball today, and I see a nice looking case sitting on the counter. It said SM-1 on it. I'm thinking "Hey I got a SM-1 Kit..." So I ask Ken if I can check it out (Ken Crane) As I am opening the Case I was expecting to see pretty much My Barrel set, but in a new case. NOPE. I was blown away by this thing. The barrel was so lite I couldn't believe it. The set comes with like 6-8 inserts a 14" tip, and a 12" tip, plus the back, and wrench, and all the O-rings. The case is tight. Nice thick plastic, with a thick foam pad in it that holds the Barrels in place nice and sucure. I always wished my set came with a case! I was so into the barrel set it took me a minute to relize there was a G7 sitting next to it.. LOL I asked Ken if I could rip a few strings threw the G7. He said "Sure, try out the Barrel set while your out there." So I did of course. I really liked that barrel. It makes the gun feel so lite (sort of like when you put a Stiffi on it), and it is wicked Quite. Shoots like a dream! I am getting one ASAP! (vantage if you still want my old set it is yours. PM me I just gotta get the other set first, and Ill mail it out) I looked on www.performanceangel.com to see how much they were, but they arn't listed on the site yet. You know you liked something when you say Hey Ill take one, and don't bother asking how much LOL. Ill let you know what it cost me when it comes in. I wish I had some pics, but I don't carry my digi around with me.. Once I get mine I'll post some pics. I am pretty sure all the MT's are going to have them, so if you want to know more give one of them a buzz. The one I saw was Ken's own personal set for his G7 (something is wrong here when I am ranting about a barrel set on the same day I got to see the G7 for the first time :scratchhe , but the G7 is a whole other thread lol. ) I can't wait to get my hands on one of these sets!!!

Brian, the sets are pretty sweet aren't they. I think Ken said that the entire set up was 200 or just under, that price includes the 2 tips and 6 inserts. All the MT's will be carring the SM1 Orbium 3 barrels pretty shortly. It's a pretty kick ass set up.

...I haven't e-mailed Erika (Sanchez) yet, but from reviewing their website photos, it appears that the sleeves are the same as the `04 SM-1 kits. The mid-back and tips differ in profile and porting, but it looks like it is possible to get the new Orbium tips and use them on existing SM-1 kits. I'm quite interested in the drop in sound decibels the new Orbium porting claims...
It is true, the Sanchez barrels are VERY light, and work VERY good.
I can say that dealing with the Sanchez folks was one of my best "Customer experiences" and have no problem recommending them or their products.
I remember when I got my Force Fly from Russ that SM-1's were hard to get due to the rash of SP injunctions that were in place at the time...glad those days are over :)
I do recal Erika mentioning that it is possible to get the get the anno color you desire, but you have to provide them a part (LPR plug would do) so they could do the color matching...for an additional cost of course. But, again, it is best you speak to them on your own just in case things have changed.
What many don't know is that Sanchez Machine is the contracted source for many of the barrel kits that other companies sell...

I have the orbium without sleeves and I have to say its even better than my old sm-1 or my sm-3. porting is amazing for looks and performance. ball on ball accurate, buddy sold his switch after he had a run with my orbium I picked up at Expo.

i dont see the mt version
Because it's not available yet...these have been in the works for a looooooooooooong time now.
Currently there is not an MT version and not sure if there will be. Based on the performance of the new Orbium kit, I do not see how we can improve on it. The one thing I am changing, is what inserts come with the stock kit from FMA. Our stock Orbium kit will come with .695, .693, .689 and .684 We will have all the factory angel colors and the Force colors by May 1. We will also have the custom insert sizes available individually.

If Bob, or Ken see your Q Im sure they will answer in the thread.
If you don't see a reply just give one of them an email. I "heard" The kit would be out within a month or so. That was a few weeks ago.

this is confusing me now, because a few ppl have confirmed an mt version, yet bob said there is no such thing. Is this version you speak of just the custom kit, or is it just that it was suppose to be under wraps unti, it's released?

This is exactly what i've needed. For quite some time i've been scouring the internet trying to find an awesome barrel kit for my fly. Longbow, Scepter, CP, Empire, i've contemplated them all. But for the guys i trust most with my Angel woes and worries to be coming out with a kit of their own, there's no need for me to look any further! Especially since i don't have to worry about a gloss kit with my dust black fly.

Well, used it today in a local 5 man tourny. Worked great again, no breaks, dead-on. Only thing I dont know is how well it shoots through breaks, havent had one yet and I've got about 4 cases through it so far. I was a freaking surgeon out there with this barrel today. Just cant belive how much this barrel really improves accuracy over my old kit thought. I expected a little improvement, but its like night and day. We took first today also by the way. Anyways, great barrel kit Bob and Sanchez Machine. I'll update more as I get more time with it.

I really like that they changed the threads on the inserts. No more unscrewing the insert from the barrel by mistake. I all ready know I am going to LOVE this one. it is so much lighter too..... :boobies: :boobies:

You may purchase one from www.fixmyangel.com (no idea on the shipping cost to canada though). Just go to barrels and gun bags and then click on the FMA Custom SM-1 Barrel Kit. You may also be able to purchase them from a few other links that are listed on the upper right hand corner of your screen. Not sure how it compares to an ultralite set since I have never owned an ultralite set, but from what everyone has said so far it appears to be a top of a line barrel set.

whats the difference in the custom do i need it or the other one?
sorry chood but I do not understand what you mean by "custom" I think You mean custom SM-1 Orbium , but there is only one to buy.
The Orbuim set comes standard with 3 diffrent sized tips, one back, and 4 inserts...
Nicest set I have owned to date.

I think chood is referring to the kit offered by Bob at www.fixmyangel.com. It's nice because it is annoed to match the WDP annos, and it comes in a nice case.
Both Ken and I offer the custom orbium kits. These particular kits may only be purchased from one of us or one of our authorized dealers. On aside note, we have another batch arriving in a week or so.

Is this kit available for Cocker threaded guns? They look like a top notch kit and I would love to have one for my Ego.
Yes, I have them in Polished Black, Dust Black and Dust Silver.

Three diffrent size tips so my barrel can be a 16 inch 14 inch, or 12 inch. One back comes with the kit, and a wrench that you will need for the inserts. They also give you a bag of O-rings for the set. You gotta love how everything fits nice, and neat.

The kit comes with 4 inserts. .695, .693, .689, .684.

The MT's are allways thinking ahead! They cut out spots for you to put more inserts if you choose to buy more down the road. The best part is you dont even notice the cut outs unless you look close (look at the pic above that is the case, I just went ahead, and pulled the foam out to show you all the spots for more inserts. then stuck them back in.)

Eagerly awaiting the arrival of my dust black! I cannot wait to see this kit in action. Looks like I'm not going to be able to use it at x-ball practice this sunday, but I'm going to rock it in a local 3 man finals as well as an X-Ball lite invitational on the last 2 weekends this month. Patience is a virtue they say...
Damn mighty fine kit there!!!

Very nice kit, indeed. I got my silver one in time for the "tournament" (only 4 teams showed up) I went to and it worked incredibly well. Not a single ball break, shot darts, and I couldn't believe just how light weight it was. We took first, but there wasn't much competition. This barrel is well worth getting IMO.

Well I finally got to play with my kit today. The kit works great and I can attest that it indeed "shoots ropes”. I was using some "Classic Origin" paint and sized it up to the smallest bore size. Until now, I had never heard of this brand of paint but the storeowner said that the same company that produces X-Ball made this stuff. Who knows.
Anyway, the paint was pretty good and was a very small diameter. I used the 0.684" bore size from my kit and it matched up perfectly. The weather I played in sucked. It was 85dF with a relative humidity of about 80%. It was a freaking hot here in New England today! Everyone paint was getting a little soft just throughout the morning.
Not a single break using the 14" tip with the 0.684" Bore on my Evolved G7. Every now and then a got a winger because with some rapid firing, the barrel for damp because of the humidity (condensation from firing). It was so humid that at times I even had a hard time seeing through the condensation caused by shooting the HPA from my Crossfire. Puffs of the smoke were everywhere.
Putting the barrel together is a breeze and with the o-rings FMA supplies with the kit, the barrel stays in place and does not loosen.
The porting is very unique and a few people commented that it was very quiet when standing next to me or when hearing it from a distance. It is also light as heck. For a three-piece barrel, you would expect it to be on the heavy side. It isn't. The weight is just slightly heavier than the St!ffi Sw!tch Kit.
I love this kit. I like it better than the St!ffi Sw!tch and Scepter kits that I owned. Let's face it, a standard barrel is a standard barrel and it all comes down to manufacturing and quality of the barrel. The FMA Custom SM-1 Orbium-3 is very high quality and if it can work in extremely conditions, it should work even better when the weather finally breaks.

Ive said it for about 1 1/2 years that Sanchez barrels are the best out there. I have shot nothing but Sanchez ever since I decided to take a chance and try the SM-1. Best risk I have ever taken. When the Orbium kits came out at Pomona I didnt hesitate to purchase even though there was no reviews on them. This is by far the best performance cosmetics barrel out, its even better than the SM-1 and that is saying a lot. Shoots through breaks from using crappy paint, is extremely quiet, and even dampens recoil. Let me tell you that a Sanchez barrel purchase will be the best purchased aftermarket with out a doubt. You will never use a different set up again. So whether you get the MT version or one straight from Sanchez you cant go wrong. I use one on my cocker threaded markers and on my Angel.

This barrel kit looks pretty sweet...but I have on question for those who have used it because I do like my DYE boomys. Would you recommend this kit over a 2 piece set? Im more intereseted in performance then price I just want to hear from peeps that have used it, appreciate it guys.

this kit is well worth my money. but if i had barrels for my angel, i wouldn't have gotten this. at the time i was looking for a barrel to replace my stock barrel. i got this kit and used it this past weekend. this kit shoots great. i was using some old xball paint and a couple did break in the barrel but it did shoot fine through the breaks. this kit was well worth my money and is a very good investment. but if you already have a barrel and is happy with them, then i'd say stick with them.

I have tired all types of barrel and kits and have settled down to one kit that I like and that is this one. The performance is amazing.
Since my last input on it's performance, I played one day where the paint was crap, it was swelled so large that it had a very tough time even fitting into the largest SM insert. I have never had this happen before with paint. I would say that the paint slightly exceeded 0.696" diameter. Needless to saw, I had a bunch of breaks on and off and started to worry.
Only a few shots going threw a messy SM-1 barrel were "wingers" and then after those few shots, they rest flew like darts WITHOUT having to swab out the barrel! I was very happy.

Yea ive actually only got one DYE boomy right now cause I was trying to a TI set but since the other bore sizes are hard to come buy...well I only have the one. Plus im buying a rasta hopefully at the end of this week and I want to get something that looks good on the gun. I guess the thing im always warry aboot with kits is basically where the inserts seam up with the tips. Most kits usually have issues with them for some reason or the inserts dont fit right or something stupid. So I do need to get a full barrel kit or set and it would be cheaper to get a kit but ive always been kinda iffy with them. And ive had very few barrel breaks with my boomy and when I do I rifle 2 or 3 shots through the gunk and its fine...I havent carried a barrel swab on the field in over 2 years. So I guess what my question is how does this kit stack up against a 2 piece barrel?

Ive never used this 3 pice kit but I have used the old SM1 kit and it shot great currently I am using the 2 piece version of this MT kit and I do know that that version is awesome. Best barrel I have ever bought
Our new inserts will be done in a few weeks. Here are some pictures on the new fly.

The back is aluminum right? and the insert SS? Only reason I ask is id like to get a full dust red barrel...im hoping thats possible....
The threaded insert is aluminum. The dust red kits we have look nice. If you are in SD there will be some at the WDP booth for sale.

If you are in SD there will be some at the WDP booth for sale.My guess is that there had to me a slight redesign on the insert to fit into the G7 Fly (new Angel threads) because the "nut" part of the insert that the SM tool locks on to if needed for removal is not visible when on the G7 Fly.
What ever you guys did, it looks clean.

Now im right comfused...So the entire barrel is made out of aluminum? I thought the inserts would have been SS as most everyone has decided that SS has a lower co-efficient of friction therefore better for pball over a longer usage period? I have been reading up on the SM site and from what I understood they went with SS because its cheaper then TI but better then Alu when it comes to friction and long term maintenance? Is this not so anymore? Sorry if im being annoying but I wanna make sure im buying what I want :embarasse
Our orbium is all aluminum. Never seen a S/S insert from SM, they did however use to offer a S/S hub but that was a few years ago.

Yea I emailed them and they have just been using Aluminum for awhile from what they said because its cheaper, lighter and works fine but you can custom order different inserts which is good enough for me...ill be getting the FMA kit shortly :bouncer:
