Based on my experience with them they are one of the most, if not the most, consistant regs on the market. I have found them so consistant I have never needed or used a secondary regulator on any marker I have ever been using a max flow. As with anything there is always a possibility of bad ones either the rare manufacturer defect or the more common user error.

About the only down side to a max flow is the weight and blowing the on/off valve o-rings. The first and second generation manifolds were very thick aluminum. The third generation manifold was milled more to remove excess weight. The 4th generation max flow is completely redesigned making it about half the weight of the previous versions. The on/off o-ring has really been the bain to my existance as far as the max flow goes. I personally keep a few dozen on/off o-ring spares in my tool box just in case. t

On another note, like I said I have had nothing but good luck with them as have most people I know who use them regularly but there are others I know who never really had great luck with them.

If you do happen to pick one up grab a rebuild kit for spare o-rings. Hope I helped.

Lastly this really needed to be posted in air systems forum so that's where it's off to.

I know this might not be you Pirata(you just made me think of it), but why does everyone always diss smart parts, but so many people buy the freak and the max flow, even when they say they hate SP. I don't really love SP myself, but that's why I don't have any SP stuff on my gun excluding my SP nitro tank gauge. :notsure: Or do the people only not like SP's guns?

That's opening a flame if I ever saw one but hopefully this does not get too OT. Some people base their opinion of SP from what they hear the popular opinion is, actually a great many people regardless of whether they admit it or not. Other's opinion stems from secondhand experience, say a friend that had an ill experience. Lastly people will base their opinion off of what they have found firsthand.

Now where does the bad rep really come from? After working at a field as a tech for several years working on hundreds of markers I have seen about 60 - 70% of marker problems are user induced. Of those user induced problems more than 90% of the users denied ever doing anything to their marker.

I have been using SP products since the late 90s and have had minimal problems. The one and only SP problem that has not been user induced, well probably not user induced, is the on/off on the max flow. I've had a couple of max flows spike because I was too lazy the night before to clean the reg for it's scheduled cleaning. Would that be the fault of SP for not holding me under a fire until I cleaned the reg? Heck no! That one was all me but many would blame SP. Maybe some of us have just figured out that whenever you point a finger at someone else you have 3 more fingers pointing back at you.

On the opposite end of the spectrum you'll see that since SP filed a lawsuit many more have turned their backs on them because they didn't understand why they did it, or at least part of the reason. Maybe they were slightly greedy. Possible because finding a business that would not look at improving profits as anything but a good thing is pretty rare in this day and age. Partly because they thought the electro-marker was their idea and theirs alone. Heck they had a patent for their idea so that must be worth something to get that. In light of all that they came across as sue happy so popular opinion of them and their products dropped.

I imagine if and when DYE ever tried to get a lawsuit filed for the sticky grip copies they might lose some of the popular opinion as a result but based on the fact their stuff is so popular they will probably not lose too many cool points if they ever did.

Ok enough rambling. I like SP and many of their products regardless of what popular opinion of them happens to be.

so is it worth the money to buy one?

IMHO absolutely. The questions you need to ask is are you prepared to carry that extra weight around the field and based on what you have read about them is it worth the price to buy one.?
