I have been having a problem with the speakers on my laptop. I play a DVD and I can barely hear the movie with all of the volumes cranked. If I get an e-mail, IM or any sort of standard windows sounds while I am watching a DVD I have to change my drawers. I can play a CD and the music is fine. Every aspect of my computer sounds is fine except DVDs. Watching MPG movies is fine. It's only my DVD's that seem to have this problem.

Before you guys start spouting off with check your bios to the left of the flux capacitor and so forth I must tell you that I am the type that will prove the law of gravity by hitting someone and watching them fall down. That's about the extent of my neanderthal brain so please don't get too technical and speak step by step if you have a fix.

Thanks

does your dvd drive have an external volume knob?

Did you crank the volume up on the laptop, the volume control on the screen, and the program where you play your DVD's? Also what program do you have to play your DVD's.

Try a different different DVD software such as Cyberlink Powerdvd that way you see if it is the player you are using. Also check the settings with in the dvd software. What type of laptop also?

I am currently using media player for my cd, mpg and DVD's. I have the media player volume all the way up. I have Windows volume all the way up when playing DVD's but I put it down when not watching movies to keep from dirtying my drawers. I will try Dell Media Experience, as it's the only other media player that's on my laptop tyhat I can find and see what that does.

No there was no voluime knob on my dvd rom drive, that was a great idea too. Now using dell media experience the problem is solved. That's freaking wierd. Ok but then here's the million dollar question, WHY?

I don't know why this would or could happen. Both programs came stock on my laptop when I bought it last year. I used to play all my movies on Dell Media Experience until a few months ago and started playing them on Media player. All worked fine until at least a few weeks ago when I noticed that I could not get the volume to a sufficient level. Oh well problem solved and I guess I am now going to use media experience.

Probably the flux capacitor next to the right memory stick, kind by the cpu but on the Vmod mem voltage stick.... or a grimling or mouse got up in there and knibbled around
:drink:

I bet

You can try:

Open up Media Player, Go to Tools - Options and then Click on the DVD Tab. Then Click on the Advanced Options button. For Output Mode, make sure that Stereo is selected.

I'm not sure if this will help but it should....

Everyone knows what the problem is already. You are using a microsoft product. :) Actually the codex for your windows media player may have not been updated.

i regularly reinstall my M$ software because of garbage like this that i dont want to/dont know how to diagnose.
my favorite software feature is when it arbitrarily changes your settings.

I particulary like it when you use internet explorer and all kinds of worms ect ect eat your computer from the inside, forcing a reformat to complete allieviate the problem. Then you use explorer again until u figure out that yes "there is other software the explore the web" that doesn't have as many holes as a piece of swiss cheese in a rat den.

Not that my computer is completely save but I am using Ad Watch SE Pro and Zonealarm Pro for protecting my computer and no program gets authorization unless I allow it. It took some time to get it configured to allow legit programs and knowing which ones were legit but not it does not let anything imbed itself on my computer and try to infect my system. Well that and both Norton and MacAfee for antivirus programs.

Switch to a Mac less M$ virus and Very little problems if the applications acts up trash the pref files and reinstall the apps no need to uninstall.

Or call me. ;-)
MS products keep me employed, but I'm starting to learn FreeBSD on my own time, looks like a great OS.

i have a FreeBSD partition on this system, ive been in love with it since 4.0.
too bad i dont know WTH im doing with it L lol L , but they have a very helpfull following so all it costs is time.

as for Pirata's mp problem, i say reinstall media player.
if it still doesnt work correctly, youve lost nothing but a few minutes trying.

It's because of the security vulnerbilities, holes and the other issues with MS Software that allows me to purchase expensive toys...

FreeBSD isn't too bad but takes a lot more work than other OpenSource stuff... Try Mandrake, probably one of the easiest versions of Linux to use and you still can get a good version for Free. Suse is OK but going the way of Microsoft.

If you want an entire OS with KDE 3.0 that can be completely run off of a CD try Knoppix....

Personally, I never use Media Player for anything...

advanced sound/volume settings might have a "DVD Volume Control"...
