View Full Version : Bolt sticking forward?? Up dwell or add shims?

OK, I have installed my Newton Lite kit as per instructions into my Rasta Fly.

My LPR is about 55psi (this is what it was set at before installing the Newton valve and hammer)

Now when I fire the marker the bolt is staying forward. In the past when this has happened it has been when the LPR pressure was too low.

So, my question is, as the instructions say set the LPR upto 50psi - should I...

a) try adding another shim and see if that sorts it?

b) up the dwell? It is set at 8 at the moment as per instructions.

you should have had the lpr at 100 psi before you installed the kit maybe thats the prob. but i would add some shims

INcrease the LPR to 100psi then use the the Newton LPR kit to drop it to about 60psi.

The only real problem I have with mine is the bolt sticking forward after I stop shooting so that the speed breach won't open...

It's not a major issue to me.

No people, I have the 'Lite' kit without the Newton LPR so I don't have to set the LPR to 100 psi. You just set your LPR the 'normal' way.

It says in the instructions with the Lite kit this should be upto 50psi. Mine is over that but I am still getting the bolt stick.

Ben

which hammer are you using is it the full delrin one or the meatl faced on, if its the delrin check that its not snapped on the edge that holds the bolt pin this could be why the bolts staying forward

Hi Bruce,

I am using the full delrin one, however it is in A1 condition. I think I have found the problem.

I rechecked my LPR without the Evolve volumiser and pin in (just put the stock one on instead) and it was at 50psi. So I added another shim which took it up to 59psi.

I then put the Evolve stuff back on and it seems to be cycling fine now. However I have run out of air now so won't be able to test fully until tomorrow.

My Fly has only done about 10,000 shots so it probably needs a few more cases to break in fully and then I'll try lowering the LPR further.

Just to update, got to try the kit with paint and chrono today. Couldn't get it above about 230fps, in the end swapped back to normal valve spring etc and volumiser and even with reg screw all the way out could only get about 250fps.

Then I had a thought, degassed and removed two shims from the LPR (would have taken it down to about 45psi (didn't bother checking for sure), put the Evolve volumiser etc back on and that was it - it was right up to 305fps. Curious.

I have FSDO but that isn't a big deal (although annoying) and occasionally the bolt sticks forward but I will try adjusting my ram a little again as perhaps that is the culprit...
