Carbon fiber back plates? Hell, you can make one out of carbon fiber at home with a dremel.

Take a sharpie and trace out the back plate onto a peice of carbon fiber then cut out the shape with your dremel.

carbon fiber is so expensive and you that fibers will stick out when you drill it

http://www.mcmaster.com/ctlg/loadpage.asp?pagenum=3361&descid=6122&term=Carbon+Fiber

You'll probably need 1/16th or 1/32th carbon fiber rigid stock. You'll need a 3X12 sheet and it will run you under $15 for the whole sheet.

Shoot, That was supposed to be a direct link but type carbon fiber in the search blank. You'll be wanting the rigid sheets. I think 1" will be way too narrow for a back plate but a 3" will be fine. It's like $9 for 1/32th and $13 for 1/16th.

can you make backplates out of anything (plastic etc.) or does it have to be something that can withstand pressure(carbon fiber, aluminum, steel)

that carbon fiber is an awesome idea. i am asking the company how much a sheet of 4" by 4" with 1/16" thickness is so i can make a couple. will post when i find out.

El Pirata

wood?Balsa wood if you so desire. While being a little on the weak side you could probably use toilet paper, unless we are talking superman paper in which that would be strong enough.
