I also use a 14" Thats what I had on my spyder, and conveniently, my iR3 came with the same size barrel. When I get my freak set, I'll use a 14" tip on it too.

I bought a 12" Scepter barrel from the Powerlyte guys at the IAO,
It,s the best thing since sliced bread. Finally someone made a sleeve kit with a sleeve longer than 3". Their sleeve is the whole length of the rear barrel. I think it's about 7" without pulling a tape on it. It loads from the front unlike the freak. I haven't figured out if that's a plus on not but it's a straight shooter thats for sure. I got the whole kit for $175.00 at the show! I'm not sure what thier regular price is going to be. They said that the IAO was the first release of it. Check it out!

14 inch, its the perfect length.

However, if you are playing airball, and want to play REALLY REALLY tight, buy a 16 inch.

There is a little trick, where you put your gun up, then push as far into the bunker as you can, so basically the bunker is wrapped around your barrel.

If you do this right, you should be just about impossible to snap shoot.

Why do you think a lot of the top pros havve these bigass barrels?

Although the Russial Legion kinda overdoes this, the have like 18 or 20 ichers.

You guys that use 16" barrels, did you notice much of a difference from a 14"? I have a SS Freak with 14"AA tip, and it shoots pretty accurate, but I think that there's room for improvement. Should I order a 16" tip?

I have a Freak with a 14" AA tip. But I just ordered a AA 16". Nobody seems to have answered my question about a 14" to 16" comparison. So I'll do a little test and let you know which barrel I like better. I won't mind carrying around a little longer rig if it shoots more accurate.

djmjohan
10-19-2002, 12:10 AM
no one's answered cause very few people have a 16" tip.

I shoot a 14" AA tip on a stainless back. Most ppl shoot a 14 tip, t least pretty everyone I've ever seen.

Let me know what you find. I'd be up for a 16" if it was easier to point with.

it wont shoot more accuratcly it just allowes you to play your bunker tighter

Epic, I kinda knew that, but it would be nice if it was a little more accurate too.

I'm a big guy, so being tighter to the bunker should help me out a little.

Well, in my experience, the longer barrel gives you 2 big advantages.

1st and most important to me, is that its way easier to point and sight down a longer barrel, which lets me better judge where my paint is going.

2nd, it allows you to manipulate your bunker more, what I mean by this, is that you can stick your barrel "into" the folds of an airball bunker, and to a lesser extent, the ridges of a hyperball tube.

That extra 2 inches of tightness can mean the difference between living and getting drilled.

Also, on airball feilds where the snake is like 3 bunkers put together, it opens up entirely new shooting lanes by sticking the barrel in between the seams where the 2 bunkers but up against each other.

I remember once I was in the middle of a snake, which was a sausage with a home plate on each end. I couldn't shoot out around the homeplate because the standup on my lane was still in and hosing me. Because of walking the feild I knew i had a killer angle on the mid and left pikachus. I stuck the 16" in between the bunkers and hosed down both bunkers and the best part was that they had nothing to shoot back at.

When I play anything other than airball, I use a 10 inch freak.

When I play airball I use 16 inch, to help wrap/mold the bunker.

Depends on the day and how i feel. I ALWAYS use my CP kit, usually a 12 or 14 tip. but sometimes i feel freaky and use my longbow 12" or freak kit 10" 14", my otp g3 dream series 12" or one of my other many barrels i have abuot 30 barrels &\or kits as you can never have too many, ranging from 5" to a custom build 23" that i made in my shop (no i dont use it, its just a parody for those "snipers" :D that have to come in and say bigger is better or wanna brag about 18" and 21" barrels so i say i got a 23" on my angel :D) mainly use 12-14, and an 18 on my nova 700 cause its just really cool to have a long barrel on the space dildo, :D but i sport my 12 and 14 regularly.....
