I think the cause of my headaches with all the ball breakage is the Reloader b that i am using . beacause i used a evolution II yesterday and not one ball break..... should i switch loaders or change the detent springs?

Tom, if you look around this forum you'll find that numerous other users have reported difficulty with Halo loaders. In particular the Reloader B it seems.

The cause for these problems seem to be an issue with the loader torquing the ball stack excessively and causing ball breakage.

Your best bet is to try using different paint or lower the loader speed. There's no known "fix" as it's not a finite problem across the board. It's more a trial-by-error based on experience.

What setting are you using on your reloader? I am using the mid setting and have no problems loader related. I have a buddy that is starting to believe that some force feeders are actually cracking the balls when they hit the breech and when air hits them they shatter.

I can not use a reloader B on any setting it seems. I just sold mine and got a used victoried halo-b to see if that helps. Currently I'm using an egg with z-board and have only experienced barrel breaks since I started using it. the problem seems to get worse with brittle paint (cheap brittle paint) so I'm convinced it has something to do with overtorqueing the balls or pushing them past the detents. I just recently lowered my lpr to 52 and my pressure to under 200 (dwell set to run at 270 fps) and it works pretty well now. I wish I had waited to sell my reloader B till after I lowered my pressure so I'd know whether it was the loader or my settings.

From what I have gathered from reading alot of the 05 chopping posts on AOG it seems like the people who have lowered their pressure, adjusted their ram seem to have less problems than people using the out of box settings. with good quality paint that was not brittle I had almost no problems with my reloader B, it was chopping but not bad. I don't chop at all with an egg or revy.

Are you using eyes when it chops? What's your lpr set at? What's you input pressure?

Oh yeah, what barrel are you using and what size paint to barrel? The only reason I ask about a barrel is I have heard some people having problems with a freak where if they put their inserts in a certain way it shreds the ball like there's not tomorrow. Also if the bore is too small in relation to the paint you can't expect paint to leave the barrel in one piece.

Anyone ever change the detent springs to a firmer spring????

according to ken, (paraphrasing) the stock springs are engineered to work with todays loaders - dont change the detent springs.

I run an egg with y board (hopefully to soon get the z) and I too have not had any problems with my Angel speed. However, I played over the weekend and my friend borrowed the egg and I used his halo with victory, because the shocker he was using did not have the feedneck to support the halo. I started chopping like a mad man. Either single pull or rapid fire, my stiffi barrel and breach were a oozing mess. I know it was the halo because when I removed the halo I saw a small nick in one of the balls in the feedstack. Here is the odd thing. I had two different colored balls in the loader, solid yellow/yellow fill, and blue-gold/blue fill. The blue was the only color all over the breach and the barrel. I could see the yellow balls making it out of the barrel through the paint, but the blue-gold was just turning the gun into a blender. I don't know if it was a problem seeing that color with the eyes or if the halo was just shredding these things. Have not had any problems until then. Cleaned the eyes, breach, and barrel, went back to my egg and never had any problems.

I'm currently running a Reloader B with no problems, initally there were some chops, but none since I've switched to theses settings:

-Loader Fastest Setting: 3
-Loader setting on the gun: Fast force feed
-4 Batteries in the loader

4 batteries seems to be the key

I'm running at 52 PSI and am still getting chops. I have paint on the bolt face, so I figure it's either a detent problem or a loader problem (stock Halo). I've ordered some new detent springs so I can rule that out.

Way too much work to get the gun working, but when it rips it works well.
