Went to the field for the first time since I got my gun back from Ken today, and the shutting off problem never happened again. I am so very pleased about that.
However, my gun was still spraying paint out of the barrel like a wagner power sprayer. Very frustraiting to say the least.
So one of my buddies has to take off early and he gives the remainder of his paint and I use that for the rest of the day. Not one break. nothing. So I try out some of my marbalizer again, and more soup. So I try out some evil... more soup... go back to this no name brand stuff and its perfect.
So, obviously its a ball to barrel missmatch. Yes, I am useing an aftermarket stiffi barrel, but I am not sure what the bore size is. So I tried it with the stock barrel and the same results. Breaks on everything but this no-name crap (I am going to call him tomorrow and get the brand so I can purchase stock in the company).
Could some one please give me a solid answer on which size paint I should use for A) the angel stock barrel and B) the aftermarket Stiffi graphite thingy-majigger?
but at least this time, I wasnt having to walk off the field simply because my gun refused to shoot after 30 seconds. So, I am slowly getting to the point of enjoying my $1000 purchase.

I'm hearing more and more the latest rage in pb is to use a big bore barrel, like .695, and shoot any and all paint through it. Personally I'd prefer to match my paint a little better but that's just me. If memory serves a stock barrel is a .689

Not really a new concept - just refitted. I remember back guys 3 years ago swearing by huge bore barrels. Less barrel breaks and easier to clean out if you had one. I never wanted to sacrifice the efficiency.
Match the paint to the barrel.

You might want to look into what pressure you are runnng your marker as well. For a marker of this speed and cycle rate if you run a pressure to high it just blends paint...

The stock infinity barrel is .689 stepped bore to .691 at the tip. I bought a stiffi barrel in .689 as well and have not had one barrel break and I use marbs, evil, and hellfire. Marbs and Evil are really small bore .685-.687 so that shouldn't be your problem unless they are really warm or have been left open with high humidity. Check the paint by rolling it on a flat surface. If the paint tends to wobble and walk everywhere, it may be oblong due to the paint settling to one side in the gelatin. Rotate your paint daily by tossing it around in a bag and never let it just set the same way for long time. Marbs and evil are thin shell paints so they will turn oblong as you watch them. Try sticking one paintball at the gun end of the barrel and blowing it through with your mouth. It should take a little pressure, but you shouldn't hyperventilate to get it out. If you have to use a squeegee, your paint might have collected moisture and has gotten too big for the barrel. If you have a stiffi, the barrel size is marked on the barrel at the gun end.
Good luck. My stiffi has shot everything from cheap zap all the way to brittle hellfire and X ball gold.

i have a .691 stiffi and only hade one or two breaks here is a ? have you ever ran a swab through the stiffi if so the barrel is no good any more you should never swab a stiffi barrel the fibers catch the carbon fiber in the porting and bent the carbon fiber out and it will act like a barb and break paint as it passes through

Well thats a kicker! Yes I have. But to be honest I dont think that is the problem as I have had near identicle results with the stock barrel.
Unfortunately I own my own small business and sell houses on the side, so my schedule is very saturated with appointments. I can only test my findings once or twice a month. I plan on going down to SC this weekend and testing out a few different types of paints with some different barrels (I will purchase a switch kit this weekend as well) and see if I can eliminate the problem. The main thing that was pissing me off before I sent the gun to Ken was the random shutting off. That has been fixed as best I can tell (played sunday for about 8 hours and not once did the gun just stop shooting). So as I said, that is a huge load off my mind. Just need to narrow down this breakage crap to a user error, or an equipment error.
I did find out that the "mystery paint" was draxxus midnight .688 which is smaller than the bore size on the stiffi. this of course supports my theory slightly, but I need to eliminate all question, and narrow down my choice of paint so I can just go and play with out worry. I am not on a "team" or anything like that. I just go an play twice a month when I have time. I dont care about being the best... I just care about having fun. Spraying atomized paint at my targets isn't fun.

I've using a .692 UL as the only barrel in my bag since mid-2002. It's never failed me. If I ever get stuck using extremely small bore paint I switch to the stock barrel, it's still not a good fit but no complaints.
Yes, it's a good idea to try and match. But the problem I found during the many years of trying to do that is that I'd have some paint (all from the same box) that would vary from a .686 to a .693
How do you match that?

I use tomahawk winter with stock barrel and it works just fine. And if i put my paintball in the back of the barrel and blow a litle it go right thru. :blasting:
