View Full Version : lack of distance

I used my 2k1 lcd for the first time yesterday. I was chrono'd at 284ish consistantly, but I noticed I didn't have the distance I used to with my cocker. Being both closed bolt I wouldn't expect that much distance drop off. When I used to be able to reach from one end of the speedball field to the other, now I'm about 10 yds short. I'm using a HP preset 88/4500, 14" AA barrel, and kapp volumizer. Dwell is at 15, any ideas?

when you shoot fast or when you shoot just once.
Angels are open bolt, cockers are closed bolt. Just because the bolt on an Angel is enclosed by the body doesn't mean it's a closed bolt marker.

Yeah, I understand the relationship of open to closed bolt systems. I used to be a tech about 6 years ago. Excuse the slip-up on the type of system. For the other question...it's not the recharge rate if that's where you're going. I don't shoot that fast...i think the fastest i've seen on my screen is 10 bps. Dwell is at 15.

no offense, but if you were a tech as you say, shouldmt you know that gun A shooting at 280 fps will shoot the same distance as closed bolt gun B shootings at 280 fps? closed bolt is nothing but a stupid myth that had long been disproven.

that is true. "Bunkered"
makes no diff open or closed, quieter though...
so its not a slow recharge on ur gun.
how about ur tank?
but from the top, are you shooting multiple shots or just one?
compare it to another angel lcd,
your lpr shims?
when was the last time it was stripped down and cleaned completly?
the ram?
uh, i see you used it for the first time so it may be just really dirty inside.
check all that

I know the physics work out, but I used my cocker yesterday as well, both shooting around 280-290 and I have to say that I got more distance out of my cocker...but that's neither here nor there.
I'm usually shooting 5-10 shot bursts, don't know anyone else w/ a lcd to compare, and you must know that when I got out of the sport in 98, electropnuematics hadn't gotten real big yet, so I don't know much about the internals or workings, just learning.
And I don't want to get into a bantering battle, but when I say "tech", I mean what went for "techs" 6 years ago...anyone who worked in a store and worked on markers...not very many people (at least around here) took any kind of formal training.
-I stuck to simple open-bolt markers, cockers, and occasionally mags.

With my expereince my cockers have always shot a little farther than my angels have, however it makes no difference to me because on every field I have played on (except for woods) I have been able to easily shoot one end to the other. I would go through your gun and give it a good cleaning, or send it out to a tech and have them run a gold service or something on it. They will clean it out, replace all o-rings, tune it, etc... After that and as long as your tank is inputing correctly and everything you should have no problem shooting end to end unless you are playing on a huge ass field...

That's what I was expecting, but on the normal size speedball field I couldn't reach the back corner bunker from my back middle one. That's what's perplexing me.
I guess I'll go get a tune up and see how she flies.

Yeah, you shouldnt be having any problems shooting middle back to back corner on a normal size field....so a tune up might fix that problem...

Something people fail to consider...
With the difference in the size , shape, and geometry of an angel to a cocker you will hold them differently. That gives you shot a different starting point. It is one little detail we often overlook.

Maybe I'm not understanding, but when you refer to starting point, you're not referring to the few inches difference of where you hold the marker are you? Could you elaborate?

You hit the nail on the head...
Both the starting point and the pitch of your shot are now different. We tend to ignore these little details.
I do recomend you get the marker serviced though. A good cleaning and tuning always does wonders.

Yeah I always hate sending my guns off for servicing...but when they come back they are always ripping like new..
I would not recommend having your local shop look at it and service it unless they are WDP Certified Angel Techs. There are just too many horror stories and over charges by local shops doing it. I would rather have it get done right by an MT...just my opinion though...

did you like my horror story? haha
ya send it to FE: angelguy.com
then get that gold service.
it'll act like new!
good luck

check bore size of paint to barrel matching, but what could be needed is a good tuning and cleansing of your Mini reg, happened with me, adjusted the snap ring and then cleaned my mini reg and i got a little more distance, but people say that some angels just dont have enough distance even new...
