View Full Version : Velocity Inconsistancies

While I was checking DEZign's bolts vs the stock Speed Bolt I came up with some inconsistancies in the form of velocity. Between the highest and lowest velocities one bolt was 22, another was 19 and the last one was 24.
Presently I have changed everything to the marker back to stock to give a baseline and was still seeing the inconsistancies. I have taken the mini-reg apart and cleaned it. I have re-adjusted the ram. I have also set the lpr back to 70psi. I am still seeing the same inconsistancies. I have tried different firing speeds to see if it could be creeping up or leaking causing the inconsistancies but there appears to me no rhyme or reason for the inconsistancies.
I'm not looking for +/-1fps but 24 between the highest and lowest velocity is unacceptable. Never in 18 years of paintball have I seen a velocity difference like that. Anyone have a clue what is the dealio?

Dunno but mine does the same thing, Ive been told I just need to break it in more.
What are your electronic settings? I wanna compare em to mine

Guess the answer might come in time.

+/- 24 is pretty crazy even out of the box. El, I'm sure you've taken into consideration the paint-to-barrel match issue. If you've put more than 5 cases through the marker I'd say it's broken in already. Otherwise continue to rip away on it and see if the consistency increases. If it doesn't then it might be a wise decision to perhaps look into component function.

2 cases to break in a marker, that's a new one on me. I'll put another 2 cases through her.

What is your dwell set at?

it was at 12 but I put it back to 7 just to make sure all the I's were dotted and the t's crossed.
The only thing I saw that I did not like was the snap ring set up was not adjustable like the older rams ....it seened to be a little weak to me...also the ram could wiggle a lot in the housing while the old ones did not...what gives??
This gun is all new to me but there are some more things Id like to try.

Im still runnin on a high preset and the reg isnt worn in yet and Im not getting that bad of velocity variations

Dez, the "clamp seal" oring now seals the hammer ONLY while in the retracted position, also giving a somewhat "preset" snap ring adjustment. this allows the air to vent form the front of the ram as well as through the 14way/solenoid, and from what i was told, this allows an increase in cycle time, and the ability to run the marker at very low dwell times.
the wiggle in the ramshaft is due to only having one point of contact within the ram.
i think this design is very good, as since the first speeds have come out, the guns i've gotten were shooting very consitant out of the box.
however, please keep us updated with any mods you make for angels, I enjoy admiring your machined art.

If DEZ stillhas the pics he can show you what he did to my old LCD, now his LCD, to enlarge the air passages to lower the operating pressure.

PBN could possibly have them. I know PBC got them in a thread but that's no more. I'll check to see if I can find them on PBN and it I can't I'll get with DEZ or check through the couple dozen picture cd's I have.

Maybe one of the MTs would take it in and fix it.
here is what I did to the valves and valve stems to open them up for more flow. this required milling ,valve seat work on a lathe to help it seal at lighter spring pressure, and some hand work using a dremel. not the befor and afters
here you can see how I carefully opened up the passageways thru the adapter and the inlet in the body that feeds the lpr . ...also not shown is the seat work for the lpr and the enlarging of the piston bore for faster recharge. this gun will shoot 290 fps using the reg set at 270 lbs with a gas thru grip. with the dwell set at only 12

WOW. DEZ u do some of the best work ive seen on an angel. did you make your way into the internals of the minireg? and if you did what did you do in there. are you thinking of lookin at the lpr to see if there is anything to do inside the plr to make it smoother?

Nothing inside the mini reg yet.

Just curious, will a higher or lower dwell effect how much fluctuations you get? I think this was asked somewhre else but im not sure if it was answered... I know what dwell does I just mean as a side-effect. I figure lower dwell would mean less fluctuation just because there's less air being used.

High and low dwell were already tested and proved inconclusive.

Gut the minireg and run a maxflow. (Known as the "Call for the dropship, then nuke the site from orbit" plan)

One step ahead of you there buddy. Max flow is on the way.

i was having the same problems until i took advantage of all day air. i sat around an dryfired about 4k shots. degassed, re-lubed, wiped down the bolt and voila. i was hitting +/- 2-3 over the chrono.

I thought about doing that, but I'd prefer a standard break in time.

whatever floats your boat. i dont think it really matters whether theres paint or not, but that may just be me.
