I bought an LCD Angel that had a broken charger for a rather cheap price because I knew I was going to get it ACE'd. The charger is the only thing wrong with it. As far as I knew, only the plug that goes into the trigger frame had been ripped off, so I soldered it back on (Hep had taken a pic and posted it on these forums, so I know I did it right).

However, the charger still doesn't work. I don't really care too much, cause the LCD is soon to be ACE'd, but if I could make it work it'd be nice, as then I might be able to sell it or something.

The problem is, when I plug the charger in the red light doesn't come on, blink, or anything. I've never owned an Angel before, but I'm sure it's supposed to do something. I think the battery meter is supposed to cascade as well when it's charging, and it doesn't do that, so my conclusion is the charger still doesn't work.

Now, if it were the end that plugs into the Angel that was the problem, the red light would still come on, right? I checked the fuse in the end the plugs into the cigarette lighter and it looks fine to me, so I'm really not sure why it won't work. Any ideas?

Oh, and when I turn on the marker the LCD backlight comes on and all the characters turn on (bunch of 8s and words like Timer, dwell, etc), then it just all turns off. I'm assuming this is because the battery is dead (as in, not charged)?

Yes it was, tried it both with the car on, and off.

Oh, anyone know how the battery should be removed? I was given a NiMH charger and want to make sure it's a NiMH battery. I thought the battery would just slide out, but it's in there pretty good and it looks like there's an o-ring or something.

Whoa.. this changes things.

I got the battery out by pushing it from the rear of the marker through the front. When I got it out a couple things definitely didn't seem right.

First, as I feared, it's a NiCad battery, which probably explains why the charger didn't work. Second, I don't think it came from WDP. Don't all WDP batteries say "Genuine WDP Part" or something to that effect on them? This one is white, says nothing about WDP, and has a yellow sticker on it. The sticker says it's a Nickel Cadmium rechargeable, it's 6.0 v, 0.70 Ah, and charges at 70 mA for 15 hours.

And on the end where the battery wires are, they're covered in hot glue, which doesn't quite seem right to me.

I can get pics if it'll help anyone.

Found a pic, looks like it came out of an Angel LED:
