View Full Version : Lasers...a mistake?

After some consideration, i have come to a possibility that the laser could be a bit much for a pbgun.
1- if the light it too bright, it could see right through some paint.
2- it doesnt matter how BRIGHT the light is, it will still detect the ball at the same speed.
any comments, or things that WDP did on the gun to fix this problem?

the whole point of you being able to see the light.... is... if you can see the light of the eyes, they are working...

if you play at a dark field, like the indoor arena that i play at, anyone on the other team would be able to see the red eyes too.
you guys don't have to believe me but the place is pretty dark!
i think i'll just stick with my angel eyes
shooting a spyder xtra for 2 years and now getting a speed for x-mas, it is amazing.
i still find it hard to believe that the speed and accuracy of a high end gun is now in my hands.

Dragun 32...I went right from a tricked out Xtra to a Speed as well. It is quite a jump man. Good luck with it.

1. most shells if not all are a solid color not transparent...so no not a possiblity.....
2. the brightness is to show you that the eyes are infact working at that moment.....
now do you think a major company would realease a product w\ a flaw like not being able to detect certian balls....i really really really dont think they would do that

Please be careful with the lasers, they are very powerful. Take a look what happened when I put my finger down my feedneck...

hahhahahahahahahhahahahahaha yeah the design was only to show if the eyes were still operational as ken said "if they're glowin' they're mowin'" so you are worrying about some far fetched stuff, my only fear is the affect on halo's eyes... trust in WDP they've been around along time and know what they're doing ;)

As far as brightness is concerned, the laser eyes just transmit in the visible spectrum of light. The regular eyes transmit in infrared. They can be just as bright, your eyes just aren't capable of seeing that kind of light. As for other people seeng you by your eyes, there will be a barrel on the gun, paint blocking them (hopefully).

well, isn't there a gap between the sides of the ball and the laser eye on both sides? plus, by the time they see it, they will be wasted  :blasting:

lol, if you can see the gap between the ball and the eye, that means you're looking straight down the barrel. So go ahead and show it to everyone while pulling the trigger.

I think that the laser monicker is just that- a label. To me I examined the laser eyes carefully before installing them and they appear to be bright LEDs. Soooo I bet they are just visible LED vs the infrared LED they were using before. To me, I like the look of the red light in the barrell. Oh one last thing, on the WDP movie page, you can see the laser eye video and at the end, the morse code spells out H E L L (.... . .-.. .-..) pretty cool. Merry Christmas everyone!

i got the new eyes in my m/t force fly and they don't seem to be as fast as the old eyes the gun with 3.6 will only hit 15 with eyes on and 24 with them off with out chopping or gapping most of the time

i got the laser eyes put in my speed and i have ver 3.4 with tr on 3 and i do about 20bps. i think it was well worth the money. i think they kinda look cool also. i like to think that i can just look down my feed neck and see the eye so i know its working.

do you play at a pitch black field? no one will see it unless they field is like 10 feet at length and pitch black. if i were u, id start playing in a field and stop playing in the woods

i have version 3.0 still and i have that problem too, its ur version board. not the eyes. i dont think...bring it to an MT and they flash the board.

you guys are thinking too much. nothing has changed on the eyes except the light spectrum has shifted . thats all from non visible to visible.strength is not effected.

3.0 should be flashed for no other reason than for the battery saving upgrade. the eyes wont slow you down this wont have changed anything on software above 3.0

from what ive gathered on similar LED's, that emit both in the visable and IR spectrums, the actaul IR intensity is less than a true IR led.
however, looking at the design of most top end Break beam eye software's, either the programing is set sensitive enough with a break beam eye that ANY shift ( lower with break beam) of the strengths of the ir beam is enough to tell the board that the beam has been " broken", or the user can adjsut the eye sensitivity ( eblade's feature this setting, which makes it almost seem as if a reflective eye was worth a crap lol)
The visable led is not IR, and unless the detector has changed, it will not pick up the visable light, only IR. so the red glow, in my opinion, was one way wdp is proving to its customers that all those "issues" people claimed to be related to mis aligned eyes, were simply not true, the visable red led light is proof of this.
also, like you guys said, you can see if the eye is blocked or not

lol...
i used some crappy rps paint that was semi see through orange shell/fill... my retroed a4 eyes couldn't see the paint. and my predatored LCD coudn't see the paint either. old school sensi on my speed worked fine though... heh.

the only way theyll actually see the light is if you have a clear hopper otherwise theyd only possibly see a flash right after a shot and as stated above they'd have to be looking straight down the barrel unless by some chance you have a clear gun......
i think its a great idea personally, its strong enough to read through a break but not to strong so that it reads through a ball.
thats just my 2 cents from what ive seen on my friends 05 speed with laser eyes

I dont think many people with an angel are too concerned with how stealth the gun is.... I play scenario and speedball, and know damn well that though an angel works for scenario, its pretty much useless extra $$$ over a $380 Armotech or Tippmann A5 w/ some Opsgear.com kits.
(DONT FLAME ME lol) Im not saying the angel is crap, jsut saying you would only be concerned with people seeing the laser in Scenario/woods games. If you play primarily scenario/woods games, you wasted alot of money buying an angel.
For speedball, the eyes are awsome, having a laser in your gun just brings a whole new meaning to "flashy guns". Im ordering the eyes this week hopefully.

i'm gonna disagree with this... firepower still counts in the woods. i'm gonna pin someone down more effectively with my Angels than someone with the Armotech or Tippies.
lol... was at my local pro shop a few months ago... a whole scenario team came in to buy DM4s... cuz they ran across a team with a few DM4s. and their upped cockers were no match.
There is still something to be said about the amount of paint you can put in the air... that's how dynasty was so successful for a while.

i think theyre called "lazer" eyes because they arent actual lasers, because lasers put out one solid bream, not like in the pictures(the whole breech is lit up), i think it's just an led and a receiver

I play woodsball and so far have never played speedball (not yet). I used to use a Tippmann A-5 and now use the Speed 05. Why use an expensive Angel in the woods rather than your typical woodsball set-up? That is simple - because an Angel is more consistent and that leads to much better accuracy. The speed of the Angel helps, but the accuracy is what I'm interested in. You can get that with a Tippmann. The Angel is just designed to be consistent when shooting single shots or ropes of shots.
The other reason I now perfer to shot an Angel in the woods is the noise. There is none compared to what my Flatlined A-5 sounded like. Try to find me in the woods now with a real quiet gun like the Speed 05. You don't know where I'm shooting from.
As far as wasting money, anything is only worth what you (the buyer) are willing to pay for it. Me? I didn't waste any money.

You can only see the Light comign from the gun when yoru are directly in front of the barrell. So, unless your being shot at by a person with these eyes in the gun, you wont see them. And if your being shot at by a G7 accompanied by a decent paintballer, your as good as dead anyhow.
HA, and an angel is in fact better for any type of paintball play then an A5 or Armotech. There are scenario players who use them, and Im sure they will tell you Angel > A5 ALWAYS.
