Ok after my bad experience with an online deal I thought I would post this for people that are having work done to their guns and such. Some of these things might seem a little ridiculous and what not, but trust me if what happened to me happens to you this stuff will come in handy. I am not saying you have to do all or any of this stuff…. that is up to you.
First of all when you pick a place to have work done on your gun make sure you run a search on them. Talk to other people and see if they have used them before. Find out everything you can about that company before you send them your gun.
Next make an exact list of everything (Including Serial numbers of guns and stuff) that you are sending (every part, upgrade, accessory, everything!!)
Take pictures with a digital camera that has the date on the picture or file. This is visual proof of the things you are sending as well as it will capture the condition of your gun so that if you get it back and there are scratches or damage you have visual proof that the damage was not on your gun when you originally shipped it.
You can also consider videotaping you packaging your gun up and taping it up and everything so you have concrete proof that you sent the items from your pictures.…
Take a picture of the box all packed up showing the address and everything.
Make sure you get delivery confirmation on your package so that you and anyone else can see that you did indeed send your package and that the place received it.
SAVE all receipts from money orders, receipts from the shipping place, etc…
SAVE all e-mails or IM conversations with the company you are dealing with. Also make sure you have access to phone records just in case you need to use them for some reason.
Make sure you talk to the company you are dealing with on the phone and find out exact details on what they do and what the turn around time is going to be. Cross reference this stuff with details you heard from other people that have used that company. In my case the work I was having done was supposed to take 3 weeks. Its been almost 7 months and I still don’t have all m stuff back….so make sure you look into stuff and get feedback from other people.
Just keep all of that stuff in a folder until you get your gun back and then you can toss the information if you don’t need it after that.
Just always be careful when dealing over the internet and out of your state. There are a lot of fantastic companies and businesses, however there are also lemons. Just be cautious and make sure you find out about the company or business before you deal with them.
There might be other tips that people have, and feel free to post them.
