afraid of buying an 05 speed

I'm new to angels and I've decided on an 05 speed for next season. I was thinking about maybe an 05 speed, A4 FLY, or the G7. The price tag of 1500 for the G7 changed my mind quickly. Considering it will drop with WDP coming out with 2 guns a year. After searching around, The A4 FLY and the 05 Speed have the same bolt, engine, and eyes. Since I like the 45 frame better would it be better to go with the Speed? I would get the laser eyes and the evolve newton kit. But alot of peoples Speeds' have been breaking paint and I'm shooting pretty brittle paint. I've heard of some peoples guns being fixed but I want a gun that will shoot wonders right out of the box. I dont wantt o have to send it to a MT. I dont read about these problems with the FLY. Thats why i'm leaning towards the FLY but it has no 45 frame. I'm looking for a gun that I will be keeping for all of next season. So something reliable. Is the G7 worth it?

The only thing you gotta do is check the ram adjustments. When you open the breech block you should get a clicking sound, if not, you can always open the back plate and turn it clockwise while at the same time opening and closing the breech until you get the click. That should set you right if you go with the Speed 05.

it shoots like a DREAM after you adjust the ram. It shoots more consistently, faster, quieter, and with less kick than any other gun I've ever shot.

You won't be able to compare the '05 Speed to the G7 due largely by the fact that the G7 won't be made available until middle of Q1 2005.

I've been extremely impressed with the '05 Speed that I've been using, the Fly I've had since April of '04 has also been incredibly reliable and has given me zero problems. I've owned Angels since 1999, being 'religious' to just WDP markers since my first one. I've yet to run across run that gave me a problem, unless I messed with it.

First off, stop listening to people who have no clue about the 05 speed and claim it is a paint blender. Do not stretch the detent springs, use fresh batteries in your hopper at all times, and adjust your ram as was mentioned above just so the bolt is just slightly rubbing against it when you open the breach. This is the "click" everyone is talking about. You can get the angel online for 850 at a lot of stores on eBay so it is more economical. Faster trigger than the Fly, same internals, and 9v battery instead of paying extra for a recharger (which BTW, you can only charge in your car). The G7 is nicer because they turned the solenoid sideways to reduce the profile, added the laser eyes, and are using an updated feed neck with one solid locking collar. Considering WDP always releases everything as an upgrade for older markers, you can get the laser eyes for 50 dollars here in a few days, feed necks are cheap and many people are having luck with the ccm and CP necks. I personally have not had any problems out of my egg or reloader B with the stock neck but that is just me. WDP gives you plenty of O-Rings of various sizes to help tighten down the neck more, probably the people who changed their necks did not try the different O-rings. Laser eyes are nice, however, the regular eyes do the same thing just no visible indication they are active other than the lights on the grip. I am certain the G7 will also be offered in .45 grip frame after a few months of production, but is 1500 really worth some different milling, a new back with quick turn breach, slightly smaller profile, and laser eyes while still containing the same internals as the 05 speed? It is personal preference the same as the 05 speed vs. the fly. IF you have a preference for an LCD over LED lights, then go with the fly. I think you will be more than happy with either the G7 of the 05 speed, however, just think with the money you save you can get more upgrades for the 05 speed, and more paint. Trust me, your paint bill will go up, this thing rocks. Lastly, the evolve bolt is nice, give it a while though and use the stock setup, so far I have seen no gas efficiency benefit other than an increase in fps for a lower lpr. The cobra bolt (ver 2.0) and cobra valve are half the price of the evolve kit and produce the same results including lowering the noise and kick of the angel. Hope this helps. You have come to the right forum, at least you are looking in the right direction for a gun, WDP all the way.

I agree with MM. I got the 05 Speed. IMO it's faster than the fly, and it is a lot less of a pain in the ass to use. Just switch it on and it is ready to rip. The lcd is nice, but I don't need reminded to lube my rig, I don't care what the temperature is, and I don't need a gun to vibrate to tell me a game is over, I know it's over when the other team doesn't have anyone left. I had some breakage problems, but I can blame most of it on the reloader b.

Thank you VERY much morningwood. You have helped me make up my mind and I am going with the 05 speed. I will pick up a cobra bolt and valve instead of the evolve newton kit. Since the main difference between the 05 speed and the A4 Fly is the led and lcd i would rather have a led with 45 frame. I would like to say that I am very pleased with the responses from this site. It is very useful and professional.

The G7 internals are not the same as the Speed 05, i've talked to JR myself. The reason for the price difference is that the G7 has the newest technology. Sry can't say more about the G7. But the Speed 05 is the best bang for the buck. The G7 is packed with extras, you have to pay for those extras.

If you find it on ebay at $850, it's probably just a starting bid, and the reserve is set higher. So although if you happen to be the first to bid at $850 you will probably not meet the reserve price, say $950, so no win.

To find volumisers for your Speed check with the sponsors at the top of the website, or you can check with your local Angel Service Center will be your best bet.

Not to bust your bubble, however, you can find angel speeds "new" on eBay for 850. I am not talking about the reserve price either. I recently bought a dust black angel speed in October for 850.00 and the seller is a company. I see him constantly selling these for the same price, however, to protect him from WDP shutting him down I cannot give you his name or company, but I promise you they are on there for that price. Besides, this guy just recently got banned by DYE on his website because he was selling new DM4's for 900.00
You just have to keep an eye out on ebay but the deals are out there. Sometimes you can talk to the resellers and get package deals with additional accessories to reduce the cost. Good Luck.

I'm in the process of trading My Viking for an 05 Speed and i am WDP Rookie still even though i have owned an 03 speed. The only problem i have at the moment is the kid whom owns the speed says that he is having trouble with the Marker chopping paint no matter what he does to it. He is not sure if it is the eyes or what!. He bought the marker some time around Thanksgiving, So i guess my question is the Marker still under warrenty ? cause if it is i would like him to send it in to a WDP tech and have them go through it before we trade to ensure that it is up to par.

Any help would be great.

I purchased mine used from a guy on eBay for $850. It had a case of paint through it is all. With the gun he included a Sanchez barrel kit and an Angel Lady drop. All I can say is Saaweeeet!

Yeah, look around for them! If you buy one from a local store with trained techs you may have some advantage over online but the price difference can sometimes be the deciding factor.

I bought mine online and my local shop services it with no problem at all. I just have to buy some pods or something every once in a while from them!

Go with the speed. It rocks hard! I've gone through a number of cases of paint so far and zero breaks!
