View Full Version : To Fly or not to Fly....maybe G7'd?....that is a question....

I'm looking to get my 05 speed Flyed.
Are the 05 board capable of, a) having software upgrades (and what does this mean in a semi only marker?) and b) programable to have multiple modes of fire?
Or is this a hardware issue only solved by the components on an A4 board?
Is it worth Flying right now, or is a G7 board with the new software the way to go? (To my understanding it is the same A4 board with new software)
Will a 05 Speed be able to be G7'd? (higher flow mini-reg cartredge, aluminum hammer, new valving, higher flow internals)[I consider this the best option so far but am fishing for a MT response to key in on the interchangablility of Speed 05 and G7 parts and wether such a mod is in the works]

Umm. Your Speed 05 is already has the EYEQ System, so there is no need to FLY it...
The G7 Board and Grip Frame (as well as eyes) will be out soon to purchase.
Yes, the G7 can swap parts with any other Angel.

yes all the 05's have the eye-q system is not as powerfull as the one in the flys, that is because of the less powerfull battery. the 05's eyes will still malfunctoin when there is dirt or paint on the eyes.

Were did you hear that?
Fly's use a 4.8 V Battery and 05's use a 9V. Does the 05 Board regulate the voltage down or something?

Um, why get ur speed G7'd, they are perfectly fine how they are. Man I wish I had money to waste on my paintball stuff like that.

I think this new visible eye is all about the hype. It is cool - don't get me wrong - but WDP is all about sales gimmicks when they release a new product. Save the 600 bones and buy a Speed 05

Does anyone know the answer to his software question because that is something i would really like to know also.

the tec at the field that i go to told me that. the 8.4 bat also lasts longer (higher ma).
it can run longer at high voltage. 9 volts is a fresh bat. it will die down faster then the 8.4
the 05 does have a powersaving mode. the eyes do not have a power saving mode. the eyes will trun off when they are not used for a while, forgot the exact time it takes. they reactivate with in a few thousands of a secconds of the triger being activated. they will be functoining by the time the breach is open and ready to check for paint.

Why G7 it? Well, I here that there is higher flow on the minireg, lighter ram and hammer and faster software. Why would I not want this?
The minimized marker kick is worth it by iteself as it can translate to more accurate shots (even it its just one more ball on target).
The faster rates of fire allow for dirivisions of playing stratagies.
Higher flow, well this has been done to death so I wont even give it another thought.

I think you heard wrong, or the tech doesn't know what hes talking about, the Flys use 4.8 volt batteries, not 8.4 volt batteries. The eyes in the 05 Speed are the exact same eyes in the Fly and are not any weaker.
That having been said I'm looking forward to the new reg internals and the laser eyes on my 05!

Just to clear something up... Majority of the parts in the G7 are not interchangeable. The ram and hammer assembly is different, the exhaust valve is different, the bolt is 3mm longer so you can't put that in. The only parts that I know you can interchange is the newer LED eyes, maybe the lpr (not too sure though...) the battery, and you can change the minireg internals from the G7 to the 05 speed.

Correct, the Fly battery is 4.8v 1800mah. Perhaps they've upgraded it to a 2300mah which would obviously generate a ton more power.
Because the '05 Speed has a 9v battery there is a power save feature that turns the eyes off when there is a period of inactivity, I believe it's 60 consecutive seconds. Upon the trigger breaking the opto-beam the eyes will re-enable before the paintball is cycled, thus you won't find yourself breaking any paint.
This will conserve battery life, as the 9v battery will traditionally not last as long as the rechargable battery. But to give you an indication, I have an '05 Speed in the shop (demo) that has over 45,000 cycles and all battery lights are still on. So it's difficult to gauge battery life.

No need to do a big conversion kit, the boards starting I believe with the 05's are compatible with software flashing. Basically, you connect it to your pc and flash it to the software of your choosing, be it the speed, g7, or whatever. You'll get faster cycles through the board just from the new software flashes, and the new g7 eyes will be available shortly as well.
lazer, there is tons of information on evolves site in their forums about the newton kit. Basically its a new valve, lpr and volumizer that can drop your internal operating pressure to around 35 psi. Chops are a thing of the past.

Unless I find problems with the '05 I don't plan to do anything to it. Then again, 35 psi, which sounds a bit crazy, is hard to resist.

I noticed on the G7 its got a nice little rubber thing on front of the minireg (like the rubber thingy on the back on the 05 speed). Would you be able to get that for the speed? prolly a stupid question, but hey, it looks cool.

The rubber thingy you saw on the front reg is for better grip. You will also see it below the trigger guard, for your ring and little pinky fingers. :dil: You might be able to though it looks like there was some milling to get that lil' piece in there.

tgaffner: I had problems with consistancy with my lpr below 55 psi. Any problems for you at 40?

Faster Software ? I'm not for sure on this but i know the software reads it over 100+ times a second
