View Full Version : Angel LED Chopping

Yesterday, I installed a new blade trigger and I bought a freak from someone. I aired it up, put some paint in it, and went to the target range. Within 100 shots, I chopped. I wasn't outrunning the Egg because I just put a Z-Board in it and I had brand-new batteries in it and I wasn't even shooting fast. The gun wouldn't used to chop at all with the foamies on the bolt. The bolt was a 32 Degree bolt with the little foam on the front. I lost the foam and now it chops. What could be causing this chop? Even on my first shot fired, I chop.

Is this chopping because of the bolt? Do you guys have any recommendations on a new bolt for an LED?

Also, i've tried different hoppers, different bolts, checked my detents, and used many different types of paint...new and old, and everything! The only thing I can think of is the bolt. Any ideas?

I just bought a DEZign Bolt for my Angel. It's being made now....wewt!

I use a new DEZign bolt on my led and love it. The only way I can prevent chopping on my led is by using a Victory Board Halo....everything else is too slow. I am getting eyes put in my led though so no chopping will occur. Are you using a high rise or a low rise? Sometimes people chop a lot with a low rise, but dont when they use a high rise. Also make sure your gun is clean and everything is oiled up. Also make sure you are using new fresh paint, not cheap crap...nice quality stuff. If that still doesnt work then check your dwell settings and your LPR.

OR do the otehr thing for checking your ram. :P When you get a new bolt you usually have to adjust your ram a bit.

It's a high rise and yes, I use good paint. My gun is clean.

Well when you get the new bolt, try it out and let us know what happens. If it doesnt chop anymore then it was just your bolt...if it keeps chopping you might have to try the other things we mentioned.

Change the Detent

JupezPB
11-24-2004, 04:53 PM
I don't think the detent is the problem...I have no air to test my gun!!! ahhh! And my "local" field is 30 minutes away.

Crazy4Paintball1

The only time the ball detent would be a problem is if you are double feeding...if you aren't double feeding then the ball detent would'nt be a problem.

Okay, I AM STILL CHOPPING!

I have used 10 different types of paints.
Different barrels, different inserts.
Different hoppers, and shoot slow.
New bolt.
Checked Detents.

How can I be chopping even when I shoot slow?!

Your ram is out of place. You should ALWAYS adjust your ram if the bolt length is the slightest bit different than your last one. Try an A4 bolt or JAM bolt.

Hep
12-04-2004, 09:07 PM
A4 bolt will not work in a LED.

Crazy4Paintball1
12-05-2004, 12:44 AM
+ they dont have a jam bolt for the led yet...and dont know if they ever will. I would check your ram...if that doesnt work then you might have to send it out to a tech and have them go through your gun completley...

JupezPB

How do I adjust my ram?

Crazy4Paintball1
12-07-2004, 07:07 PM
At the top of the page under the "More" Tab if you click on it you can get the manual and that should tell you exactly how to do it. Basicly you take your backplate off (Be careful not to loose the breech spring that will pop out so take it off slowly and have your hand covering it) There will be a screw type thing on the lower right side, that will be where you adjust the ram if I am not mistaken....someone can probably correct me or if you run a search on the site you will find more information on it.

JupezPB
12-07-2004, 07:38 PM
How do I know if it's right or not?

Crazy4Paintball1
12-07-2004, 07:48 PM
When you close your breech...you want there to be a slight click where the bolt goes into the hammar. It should go in easily..but just make a slight "click" sound.

JupezPB
12-07-2004, 07:50 PM
Huge problem. The allen-wrench skrew on the back is stripped. How do I go about getting this out?

Edit-With my new bolt, I hear the clicking sound. But with the old bolt, I don't. I think the ram is already correct. And when I look down in there, it looks perfect..

Edit2-Okay, I just put a paintball down the feedneck and when it when down, it sat back pretty far into the gun. When I held it back, I could only see half of the ball looking through the feedneck....

JupezPB
12-07-2004, 08:01 PM
I'm almost positive this is the problem. I put two balls down the feedneck. I look in the gun from the front (where the barrel would go in) and if I hold the gun back, I can see the first ball and half of the second ball! Yet when I hold the gun forward and the detent stops the ball, I can only see that one ball. This could very well be the problem couldn't it?

Crazy4Paintball1
12-07-2004, 10:53 PM
Yeah, you might need to adjust your ram forward so that it brings your bolt farther up, which should prevent that ball from rolling back. But if your screw is stripped you might have trouble doing that.... I am not positive on how to get it out, you might want to call one of the master techs and talk to them about it and see if they know what to do, and you will probably want to get a new one to replace it...

JupezPB
12-08-2004, 06:54 PM
Where do I go to talk to them?

Crazy4Paintball1
12-08-2004, 08:36 PM
If you go to the top of this page abover where it says "Angel-Owners" there are a bunch of little links that are names of paintball stores...those are all Angel Service Centers...just pick a link get their number and call them....any of them will be able to help you.

Today at my mom's work, I had the guys look at it and he said he'd bring a tool tomorrow to fix it. One thing I noticed was that you could open up the "flap" where the bolt was and see the ram. I adjusted the ram from the outside...this is the ram..right? Thanks in advance.

Crazy4Paintball1
12-09-2004, 11:40 PM
The "flap" is the breech..lol just for future reference. Yeah you should be able to see part of the hammar as that is where the bolt goes into...

JupezPB
12-10-2004, 07:09 AM
Okay, well i've got everything adjusted.

JupezPB
12-10-2004, 09:14 PM
Well the ram has to be adjusted to where the pin on the bolt is. How can I make the bolt move up? The pin on the bolt would have to be moved to make the ram move up wouldn't it?

Crazy4Paintball1
12-10-2004, 11:02 PM
Basicly move the ram up as far as the bolt will allow you to.

JupezPB
12-11-2004, 08:27 AM
Yeah, I did that and it helped some but it didn't quite completly fix it. Maybe I could get that same bolt made again and tell the guy to move the pin up?

Crazy4Paintball1
12-11-2004, 09:26 AM
Possibly. Have you tried using the stock led bolt?

JupezPB
12-11-2004, 05:27 PM
Just got home from playing and had 2 chops out a case. If anything this is a start.

I played speedball all day and the field wasn't level and the only time I chopped was when I had to shoot up. I guess this means that the bolt is too far back but when I would play on higher ground and shoot down, it would be fine.

To sum it up, my only 2 chops were from shooting uphill and lucky, I cleaned one of them out very, very quick so it wasn't an issue.

Crazy4Paintball1
12-12-2004, 12:40 AM
Thats great...at least you have made progress. Hopefully you can tune it so it doesn't chop no matter how your gun is angled.

JupezPB
12-12-2004, 10:06 PM
I'm getting eyes! Wewt! One more thing...I messed with my dwell a while back..not realizing what it was. :embarasse Anyways, could this cause chopping?

Edit-Which eye should I get?

Warped Air Smithing (http://www.warpedairsmithing.com)

or

Doc's Machine.com (http://www.docsmachine.com/gear/morlock.html)

Crazy4Paintball1
12-12-2004, 10:19 PM
Yeah it is possible that the dwell could have a slight effect...

As for eyes. Warped Airsmithing isnt doing eyes anymore as he is having problems with it, or at least that is what he told me.

I heard a rumor that the morlock board was no longer available, but if it is I would look into getting that.

JupezPB
12-13-2004, 09:30 AM
Ahhh....so there are no eyes to get for my LED under 150? :(

Crazy4Paintball1
12-13-2004, 10:01 AM
Not unless you do something custom yourself. Check on the morlock board though you might be able to get one.

JupezPB
12-13-2004, 01:03 PM
:( :'( If you happen to find anything...let me know. This totally sucks..

Edit-http://www.docsmachine.com/visionsystems/angel.html

It says there that it's 300 bux?

12-13-2004, 07:32 PM
That's the gabriel system, I think he meant this:

Yeah that is the morlock board from Doc's I heard rumors that, that board is not going to be available for purchase anymore...I could be wrong though.

JupezPB
12-14-2004, 09:21 AM
I emailed him Sunday so he should be sending me an email back soon hopefully telling me wether or not he can do it.

Crazy4Paintball1
12-15-2004, 09:30 AM
Hopefully you can get it.....its a shame how they just leave us led owners hanging out to "dry" in terms of mods and upgrades for our guns....

JupezPB
12-15-2004, 10:36 AM
True. Also, I like my Angel LED better than my cousin's Speed. Maybe it's because i'm used to it but I like the feel better...

Anyways, an eye is a must-have for me right now and I have the money so I wish that guy would get back to me...

Holysokz
12-15-2004, 08:32 PM
You could try the angel guy.... he will isntall the board for you for around 180 i think (pred-morlock) turn around time is kinda long and doc. He's a great guy and does great work but he is backed up on stuff. But check your snap right to make sure that is right on your LED too. But rock on that LED.

JupezPB
12-15-2004, 10:05 PM

Something that always confused me about my LED, is that it would chop one time in like the first or second game I would play. And then the rest of the day it wouldn't chop at all. I was thinking that it was just something that it needed to get of it's system.

Crazy4Paintball1
12-16-2004, 08:06 PM
I was informed yesterday that the regular morlock board is still available its just the micro morlock isnt available anymore....

JupezPB
12-16-2004, 09:05 PM
So I can still buy that board for 120?! Awesome. I know I should read but do I I send the gun into him or does he just send the board to me? I guess I could put it in by myself..lol.

Crazy4Paintball1
12-17-2004, 09:56 AM
I am pretty sure you can still get it. You will have to do it yourself. The only hard part is drilling your gun for eyes, so you might have to send that out for someone to do....

JupezPB
12-17-2004, 10:41 AM
Well, with reading the directions, I could get one of the employees at my mom's work to do it...they have to do that stuff every day.

Crazy4Paintball1
12-20-2004, 10:34 AM
Yeah at my local shop one of the owners owns a coin making shop (Poker chips and stuff) so he just takes guns in to his machinest and he taps them for eyes and stuff...nice and cheap...lol

Jumpezpb plz let us know how you like that mod after you get it installed. I am considering it as well.

JupezPB
12-21-2004, 02:13 PM
I dunno what i'm doing. I'm thinking of getting a Speed...dunno.

Crazy4Paintball1
12-21-2004, 10:48 PM
Paintball-Trader Holysokz Has that mod done on his eclipse led. You can PM him on here and ask him how he likes his.

JupezPB- Too bad you might be leaving the LED family, but at least you are sticking with angels. Sorry you couldn't get the kinks worked out of your gun....I have posted everything I can think of...lol

i just made a soft face bolt. has anyone tried this before. i have a drilled out delrin 'tek bolt. where i drilled it out i put small custom cut piece surgical tubing. (just use a razor blade) its superglued in, then drilled through and through into the bolt. i put polyurethane glue in the hole, hopefully that will keep it in there. if you tried this and it failed let me know
