View Full Version : How to balance LPR pressure/Dwell/and exhaust valve spring settings

My question in general is how to properly balance these items for peak performance (Angel LED/LCD). I understand how to balance hammer and valve springs in other markers, but how does this relate to a electro that only uses a exhaust valve spring. If I use a lighter exhaust valve spring, can I reduce the lpr pressure used to operate the ram? Am I correct that lpr pressure controls the force in which the hammer hits the exhaust valve, and dwell effects the amount of time that the valve is held open? And last, does dwell time effect rof? Does anyone produce a good text
that explains advanced marker tuning and operation?

If you lighten the exhaust spring, you should be able to run the LPR at a lower pressure. But keep in ming, the RAM needs at least 65psi to operate. If you feel like messing around with your gun, you could try the Freeflow ERA.

mark i can tell you from years of testing that the gun works best with the stock spring and hammer.you need the weight and mass to whack the valve to get the correct velocity.now in saying this, adjusting the rof and dwell settings can make a world of difference.try running the rof at around 16 and the dwell in the range of 18 or so and there seems to be a sweet spot in that range.with the free flow mod you must remember that no service center or yourself for that matter can check the lpr pressure becuse the mod removes the lpr.when softening springs and trying to lower operating pressures, the balance is only as good as the smallest hole in the air passage system.so to acheive what i think your trying to do,you would need to make some holes bigger to move and store more volume. low pressure requires high volume hi pressure requires low volume.i in no way recomend this as i have had some close calls with ruining bodies with my midnight tests!

Why does the new LPR "red" valve I just installed from WDP come with 2 different lenght valve springs?

Great info. Thanks Ken!
killerbombo, if I'm not mistaken, the diff springs are because it can be used in either the LED or the LCD and each requires a diff one.

Ken, could you provide more info on this? Is this on a stock LCD? I assume this is your own testing and found this setting to be the best? I'd like to know how you came to this conclusion (strictly for the sale of my own curiosity) :-)
I've currently got my Angel set at 17 bps and 13 dwell. I was under the impression that a lower dwell would give better efficiency?
Thanks for your time.

With my 20 months of Impulse ownership under my belt I am well versed in Dwell and Input pressure tinkering :)
Now that I have moved up to a new and much nicer LCD :) I am finding it weird that no one wants to touch their markers or change settings, like it is blasphemy or something? There is always room for improvement. A Ram is a Ram, A 14 way is a Solenoid, A brass hammer is a Hammer. No one complains about Brass shavings in their Impulse or Wearing out their valve with a stainless Hammer.... I have even experimented with Hammer Weights to find a balance with my Derlin Bolt(s).. It all works and has never ruined my Impulse...after 50 odd cases of paint in still shoots and looks like new..... 1900+ shots from a 68/4500 with the kick of a Matrix (which means none)
Anyway....
All those adjustments are there for a reason...use them...
Crank the Dwell down... Up your Pressure...Use less air...and whats this about using a higher dwell for bad paint?? You can shoot Infeno from a electro-spyder (850 psi) all day long and not break any paint...so running your angel higher shouldn't matter!
Throw in a Heavier bolt and turn your pressure down... By the way...with the aluminum insert the R11 Bolt has, it is heavier than stock, that is why you get the increase in velocity, it is hitting the valve harder....
Throw in a stainless hammer, polish it up...
Yada yada...
Learn on a Impulse...Master the Angel.......
If I am in for a live and learn experience, so be it.. That's the fun of paintball :)
Yes Sniper Bob.. turning your dwell down will better your shot count...by how much?? No one knows...no one does it Hahaha
