my 'fly' (retro'd a4) was chopping today but i have no fricken idea how. it worked perfectly last weekend, all nice and stuff then this weekend my eyes/bolt/breech/hopper/barrel were all clean but i couldnt get the gun to stop chopping. i tried 3 types of paint, severe, house, and draxxus but they all still chopped, my eyes were clean and they passed the eye test. i tried it with eyes off and it still chopped. the halo had fresh batteries i had JUST put in, the angel was charged and lubed.
out off all the balls that broke i couldnt not find any shells, since they got shot out, all that was left in my gun was really thick white paint after every shot. i dont think i fired 1 full paintball today.
anyone know whats up, sd is next weekend and i really need a working gun, this is the first time this angel has ever messed up on me so im not exactly angel smart.

Check your ram adjustment! =) Then go on to detents.

tool kit certainly helps, but isn't required...check the manual or the thread Ken created for Ram adjustment procedures.

what do you mean not required, what can you use to adjust the ram?

having the proper tool for the job is always preferential, however almost anything can be jimmy rigged;)

I would say Ram, it has a habit of backing out from the vibrations of shooting. Loc-tite it after you adjust it, and put a tank O-ring between the back of the ram and back plate (someone suggested that before on this forum). if you don't have a ram adjustment tool, but have circlip pliers, you can use that.

I'm curious (those that stretched their springs) what sort of tension were the ball detents putting on the chambered ball? Try something for me and report your findings...
1.) When you place a ball in the chamber how much of the next ball is visible if you look directly down the barrel?
2.) Does that ball in the chamber move back and forth significantly, a little or not at all?
3.) If you were to manually push the ball past the detents (slowly) does it appear as though the detents apply significantly force to the ball, hardly any or just enough to work.
4.) If you were to manually push the ball past the detents (quickly) does it appear as though the detents almost grasp the ball and hold it in place, or just delay it from rolling right into your barrel?
5.) Do your detents cause wear, scuffing or no marks on your bolt?
6.) When you break a ball, is their paint residue on only all of the detents?
Reason I ask these questions is I've recently come across some bad paint through my marker and upon trying different loaders, different pressure configurations and various spring strengths I'm now curious to see other people's results/feedback.
Also during this testing, I found that is very easy to over-stretch your detent springs to the point that they're the cause of paint breaking.
