check DOT certs. There are only a few bottles that are good for 5 years, most bottles are good for 3. Why would you be aloud a 5 year hydro 1 time, but then everything after that is 3 years? If it's good for 5 the first time why not the 2nd? 3rd? 4th? etc.....

Well cuz they assume the older it gets the more abuse it will take, so they just want to check it more often. You would do the same thing to older cars. Checking things more often and more maintainance. I know propane tanks are like that.
How many paintball fields actually check the DOT sticker everytime? If at all?? Especially when you have a tank cover on it.

at every tourney at my local field they check the dot stickers b/f they put a colored ziptie around so you can fill it. All fields should do this.

unfortunatly if your field isn't checking Hydro's they can get in big trouble. Additionally there is no provisions in any hydro rules I've ever read that say anything of the sort you're talking about. I used to perform hydro's on a regular basis when I was in the Navy. Whether DOT has the same strict rules we did or not, I don't know. However it's every 3 years on almost all paintball tanks except those that have teh 5 year stamp. Now there were a few tanks that were initially given a 3 year hydro that were changed a while back and they said they met 5 year standards. www.hydrotesters.com has all the info on that.

additionally...reading the bottle on my AIR just a moment ago, it gives you all the stats...design lifetime 15 years. then below all the DOT numbers it specifically says in big bold letters....
RETEST EVERY 3 YEARS PER US DOT-E11194/HSE-AL-FW2
So there you have it, straight off the bottle........unless there has been a change to that DOT regulation, you must retest your bottle every 3 years, it is not a 5 year bottle, and none of the hydro's on this bottle will be 5 year dates.
