View Full Version : Dent in my bolt??

So I was cleaning out a horrible ball chop the other day and when I removed the bolt I noticed a dent in the side of it. This is kinda weird, since it's on the side of the bolt where the ball detent is but I dont think that did it.

To give you a better idea, take out your bolt, hold it in the position it would be in the gun, and look at it from the front of the bolt. The dent is about 1 o'clock. It goes from the front of the bolt about 4 mm back.

It looks like the paint shell may have done this, almost like the bolt was scraped at by the shell.

I was under the impression a paint shell wouldn't do this (I was shooting Marbelizer) b/c the shell is less dense, and less hard than the bolt. This is a stock bolt from a 2000 LCD.

Any ideas if my gun is going to be severely affected by this? Any ideas what did it?

...

that's for the COPS rod to slide in... its a paint detection system on the speed and A4.

But he said it a stock bolt form a 2000. So theres noway it will have a cops grove in it. Breach wear can do it but I dont think it would make that bad of one. It should hurt anything but think about geting a new bolt sometime.

I doubt its a stock bolt, if he posts pics, I'll tell him what kind of bolt it is.

The gun has never had any aftermarket parts added to the internals aside from the Ballistic Batteries NiMH battery.

The bolt is stock and you can definitely tell I've used the gun over 4 years. If I had a camera I'd take a picture but unfortunately I dont have one.

It's not a dent per se, its more like a groove that begins 1mm deep and continues 4mm along the bolt until it shallows out. It's like it sliced up on something. The breech appears to be relatively secure and I doubt its an actual problem with that...the only thing I can think of is that paint shell...

I wouldnt know what paint could do a that. I could see maybe a wear by the feed neck on the inside of the gun or some were like that doin it. Maybe your bolt is just getting old and just chiped off or something. Did you notice any thing weird when you were shooting it last.

I have a 2001 Lcd and over the 3 years I've been shooting it the stock bolt had taken some breech wear....all it is from is that the bolt been sliding over your ball stopper for 4 years and its created a little dent. It wont hurt anything all it does is allow the bolt to move smoother and your ball stopper will last long but if you feel like its hurting or changing the way ur marker is shooting then I would go out and invest in a A4 soft face bolt....
