View Full Version : OH NO! I think i messed up my AIR and MAXY!

Well here's the thing, I took apart my 03 Maxflow and my 02 Angel Air.
I wanted to put the maxy bottle on the AIR reg and vice versa, and it's going onto the AIR reg fine, then with 1/4 in space left, BAM! It stops threading on. Crossthreads, I try to put the maxy bottle back on it's reg, and no dice.
Now both tanks and both regs are crossthreaded, I think.
Can anyone tell me what to do, and why this happened?
Thanks!

eww that sucks try going to a mech shop and see if they got a thread tap big enough for it if your still in school your shop might have one f not try a tractor dealership/repair place

Well here's a little update. Got another maxy in today, has a carleton bottle, and the angel bottle goes on to the maxy reg! Yay! Shouldn't that mean that the angel air and the maxflow bottle and reg have the same thread? That makes sense to me. Nothing else works though.
The angel air reg is crossthreaded, same with the maxflow reg, and same with the maxflow bottle. I mean it doesn't really look crossthreaded, but about 3/4 of the way on it stops dead.
Could this be something other than crossthreading? Maybe it's just a build up of loctite or something?
Someone please help, I have no idea what to do!

Anyone know the thread size (and depth and all that) for:
1. Angel Air
2. Maxflow
I need them if I want to get the tanks taped and the regs re-threaded.
Thanks!

Ok, now here's the most §§§§ed up part of all.
I have 3 bottles :
carleton
angel
sp
3 regs:
maxy a
maxy b
air
The SP bottle will go about 1/2 way on to either maxy.
the carleton bottle will go on either maxy.
the angel bottle will only go onto maxy b
the air reg is pooched...lol
Can anyone explain why the carleton bottle will go on the maxy reg that the angel won't, when the angel works on the other maxy?
I can take pics or make a vid if you don't believe me or understand....
Thanks!

so many tanks and regs........aaaaaaaaa..
Alright heres the thing, if you can see buildup of loctite on these things then you need to take some goo gone and clean all that crap off.
and they may not look crossthreaded btu the smallest knick will stop a tank, make sure to check inside your angel air for knicks..but if all looks good and you cleaned them off and it's still doing that...and well if you don't want to take it to a machine shop then...Grab on tight and GIVE 'ER HELL!!! (of course i would recommend going to a machine shop and have them check these things out first.

bottles are threaded the same internally...this means that regs are all the same threading. Any bottle can take any regulator.
It's called an industry standard for a reason.

I know they are the same threads, but the bottle stops 3/4 of the way onto ANY reg.
I cleaned off all the loctite, which might have been the cause of the problem in the first place, but it still does the same thing. I think it must be a burr or something down in the threads, so I guess i'll take it to a shop to get it looked at so I don't have to screw up anymore regs. lol
Thanks a lot for your input!
