Does anyone have the exact weight of the 05 speed? Also, are all of the trigger frames black or can they be ordered in a solid color? thanks in advance.

yeah you can only get black right now. Maybe WDP will offer some other colors later on though. I'd like to see a dust blue to black fade, w00t! As for the weight (in grams or whatever) I can't help ya there.

why so obsessed with the weight? it ways about the same as the fly or the a4...
are you not gonna use a volumizer just because the gun will weigh more?

get some muscle!

Frank_McCrank - thanks for your valuable addition to this thread. Considering this gun is for a hadicapped friend of mine - I hope you feel big and macho with your post above. I think pbnation would be an appropriate outlet for your shortsided crankiness.

how could i know your friend was handicapped? dont get all mad just cause i dont know who your friends are...

its just that people are always worried about weight etc. when you dont actually feel the weight of the gun when you play. cause you are all adrenaline etc.

Umm, if weight wasnt a concern to people. Then why do lighter timmys and lighter Angels (etc.) cost more then the heavier ones. Yes, because of more extensive milling, but also because the gun is lighter, and smaller.
Are you saying that if there was an angel that weighted 5 pounds and was $700, and there was a angel that weighed 2.2 pounds and cost $900...that you would get the one that weighed 5 pounds? Because if you dont care about the weight, I know everyone cares about price. It makes sense in my mind anyhow.

Maybe one of the techs can clear this up for us. I need to put something together that will be under 4.5lbs (marker, tank & hopper) so it's light enough for him to lift. thanks

Hahahaha NO!!! You can tell the weight. I used to play front with a Dark IR3 w/ tank and hopper it wieghted over 10 lbs my arms started hurting into the 3rd game. wieght may not matter for a back player but for everyone that has to run to the 50 you would want a lighter gun. And trust me i know many people will back me up on this. All the extra wieght that you carry arround when trying to run to the 50 will slow you down and may cause you to get hit on the way to your bunker.

The lighter ones cost more cause you have to spend longer milling them....

WDP site says the 05 speed is an inch shorter and 1 lbs lighter than the original speed. Hope this info helps. Don't hesitate to ask any question just because of some ignorant replies. Good luck to your friend!

I think they said 1/4 lb lighter than the original - does anyone know what the original weighed? Thanks for your help - we're getting closer.

I could always get him a super light alias or nd timmy - but then we're talking more money and inferior quality.

if you dont mind me asking how is he handicapped and whats the deal with the whole 4.5lbs thing? is it hard for him to pick something up heavier?

For a setup i reccomend getting an egg becuase its lighter than a halo, you could always put a 4-battery pack in the halo which will reduce weight but youd have to change the batteries more.

yeah - that's what he can lift up to his shoulders - he was very specific about this. Maybe he's thinking 5lbs but wanted to leave a little wiggle room in case I went over.

He's in a motorized wheel chair (car accident) and has limited mobility in his upper body. He's a hell of a shot though. He's a beast in the back (woods of course.)

Alright, i said more extensive milling...which also means more time. Lighter guns are better for your game hands down, no one is going to dispute that.
And, I think that the riginal speed weighed either 2.7 or 2.8 pounds. So the 05 speed would then weight about 2.5 pounds. And as for making a gun that weighs less then or even near 4.5 pounds is not likely to happen. The paint itself probably weighs about a pound. Perhaps for the sake of lightness you should look at a shocker, evo, and a 45ci fiber tank.

I believe the A4 Fly is slightly lighter than the 05 Speed, so if money is no object than I would look at that, but if the $350 extra isn't worth the couple of ounces saved than the 05 Speed is your best bet when it comes to Angels. The Halo and the EvoII weigh the same when loaded, so if you are going to go with one of those I would say Halo, but for pure weight saving I would get a Empire Reloader (the VL Revolution one, not the Halo version), for a tank I would say a crossfire lp preset 45/4500 and a checkit unimount. This won't get you to the 4 pound target weight, but its probably the lightest setup with an 05 speed.

Gun: ~2.5 lbs
Tank: 2.7 lbs
Unimount: ~.5 lbs
Loader: ~1 lbs
Paint: ~1.5 lbs

Total: ~8.2 lbs

As much as I hate to say it, you might want to think about a shocker, the weight on a shocker is only 1.14 lbs, which would make the total ~6.84 lbs, I really hate shockers but they are the lightest gun. Or an Alias Timmy which weighs in at 1.4 lbs, hope this helped, good luck.

well, i dont know if he is in a wheelchair, but if he is, you could try to set it up with a remote line thing, and attach it to his wheelchair, which would reduce the wieght of the gun

that is if he is in a wheelchair

:dito: great idea! if you stuck with a Speed, that would shave the total weight down to ~5 lbs.

heck...you could maybe even make a super long warp feed hose or qloader hose and attach the loader to the wheelchair, where he could access it to reload of course

this would take even more weight off of the gun

and then you could modyfiy the q loader....nvm

Hey man why not get a remote hook up for the tank and place it somewhere convient on the wheelchair?? That will take the weight off the gun.

Is your friend into rec/scenario ball? We were at the 24hourgames Fighting Band of Brothers of game (www.24hourgames.com) this weekend. A player on the opfor had a jazzy (personal mobility device) that was setup as a tank. He had a remote run to a 91/4500, about 15 pods arranged around the steering stalk and was using an electro gun of some sort (I kept away from that tank) and he lit people up all day. He used PVC for framing and regular pb netting with 3 gun ports. He always had infantry with him too.

Good for him for getting out, whatever his disability, and getting involved in a fantastic sport full of helpful folks from every walk of life.
