Hi all! Thought I'd stop by and get some feedback from you guys/gals. You see, I'm in the market for a 2nd marker for a backup...or as a main if it can beat my 2003 Shocker setup. It looks like a used Angel IR3 from eBay would suit me best for the price but out of all the models is it a good decision versus...say...a new/used Speed or LCD? I dont care what year of a Angel since I like them all cosmetic wise but I'd like something w/ a lot of parts still available and a lot of upgrades. Can you Angel owners point me to a good model? Any particular year of a certain model? YOu know, I shot an Angel for the first time last weekend (been playing 5 years now) and I couldn't believe it. I ripped faster than I ever have on that Angel compared to my 2003 Shocker. Granted I haven't worked on the trigger yet but still I was sold on that Angel and it was a '99 LCD if I heard him correctly, it was a older gun but holy cow! My shot grouping and accuracy was way tighter too. Anyway, first post to say hello, I salute you Angel owners and hope to become part of the family soon, eBay willing. :) Thanks ahead of time for those that reply.

hey dude,
well.... i love iR3's, best looking angel evermade.
Pro's for iR3
-fast
-lcd screen
-good amount of ups
-pretty as hell
cons
-cops is not the best, but works well if set correctly
-board is capped at 20 and has only 1 mode, all others are locked, unless u can get a way in(has been done)
-high pressure, its not a con, but all these new hightech guns all run at like 175psi....
if you want the fastest shooting gun around u have 2 choices
1-a4 board(u can use your lcd screen)
2-was/ace - $300
3-demon/ace - $275
4-get it flied by the Master Techs - $400(the best, but by far the most expensive)
hopefully that covered ground on most things, and also
WELCOME!!!!!!
later,
nate

You should be able to get an IR3 cheaper than any speed. The speed doesnt have an LCD screen on it, it has some LED lights to show what is turned on etc. In my opinion the IR3 is alot better than an LCD angel. Better construction and electronics. It also has COPS, which alot of people arent too keen on (my guess is its too hard for them to configure right) but when I have cops on and set right, it doesnt chop paint. A speed has the same cops system but is called sensi and it confgures itself.
If you like to tinker/upgrade/modify your marker then the IR3 is probably for you. If you want to just have a backup marker, to pick up and play with then consider the speed.
The IR3 is deffinately a ripping gun and I recommend it al the way.

Pick up a Dark IR3, I might even say they look nicer than my Fly.....love Dark IR3's...get a pewter fade one too...

Given the choice of an IR3 or a speed, deffinetly go with the speed....IR3s look nicer I think, but speeds have better internals....if your willing to go for the retro fit Fly mod, then you want the IR3 for the looks, but stock speed is deffinetly better/faster than the IR3

The speed internals are lower pressure internals. This is about the only thing better about them. A lower pressure marker should be able to gain more shots from the same size bottle.
The mini-reg is the same. The ram is considered worst on the speed. The solenoid is no different. The board doesnt have all of the functions as the Ir3 board has, But it does have a self calibrating sensi. The only real difference is in the lpr and the air passages in the body.
As far as faster goes, I can fire an ir3 faster than a speed.
Its all personel prefference really, I suggest trying every marker you are considering to find what you like best.

as far as I know speed boards have a debounce setting, this will easily increase your bps to 20+bps without breaking tournament rules...MEM boards on IR3s dont have a TR setting at all...so your basicly only going to do 14bps, 16 if you have a nice trigger....

Welcome; I'm certain you'll enjoy being part of the Supergun club.
A Speed brings you into the modern family of Angels; the IR3 was the stepping stone between the older LCD generation and the modern A4/Fly generation.
Used Speeds are currently hovering around $500-$550. Used IR3's are in that same range or a little cheaper. In my view, why sacrifice 10 bps of MROF and go through the hassle of programming COPS when you can get Sensi, and have a better upgrade path to newer technology, for just a couple dollars more? You also get dual ball detents and LP operation out of a Speed over an IR3.

Thank you ALL for the warm welcome. I've enjoyed reading these forums the past few days educating myself on the Angel. Taking into account all your replies and sizing up the different models I've decided to go with a Speed then later on, if I want/need to I could FLY it for $400 more but then again with the current price of a new Speed and add another $400 for the FLY conversion I could just order a Angel 4 Fly....agh! Decisions, decisions.... :)

And then there's the new Speed 05, $999 and it's pre-Fly'd and comes with a cool new minireg and all sorts of bells and whistles. Decisions, decisions!

Ugh. If the Pred II can outshoot Dale's Master Tech EyeQ'd Angel (http://www.68caliber.com/features/reviews/story04338.php), I'll eat my hat. (There's a video of it around here somewhere, but I'm too lazy to find it.)

Yep, agreed but I'm also flirtin' w/ a Dye DM4 lately as well. Either way I'll have a kick ass marker. Hah, my Shocker 03 will be the one ending up being the "backup". :)
