So I've got my Fly back from Ken and went to my local PB store on Friday and got some air and paint (RPS Flash, wicked small, very round and hard) to try it out. I also wanted to try out my new .684 UL back and the 18" tip from my daughter's Empire kit.

It's got ~8000 shots on it so I set the dwell to 10, TR to 1 and the LPR ~53 with the input pressure @ ~375 (AA Armegeddon) It shot like a dream with almost no kick and accurate as heck, but no chrono so I couldn't set my FPS.

So Saturday I get to the field and go to chrono but it won't go over 230. So I up the input pressure to ~450 and I get it up to 280 (mini-reg wide open), but the accuracy goes down. All the balls are now curving slightly to the right. If I lower the input pressure enough, the balls go straight but it won't chrono above 240.

My fix was to raise the dwell to 11 and lower the input pressure to achieve the LPR setting that won't affect the ball's accuracy. (Volumizer is on) But now the kick is back and I don't like it.

So here's my dilema..... Obviously my gun likes the dwell set @ 10 and the balls like the LPR set <= 53, but how can I do this and get my chrono speed to 280? I didn't try my Scepter kit, but I don't think the barrel length enters into this as lowering the input pressure (and thus lowering the LPR output pressure) straightened out the curve.

So do I take 1 or 2 shims out of the LPR and raise the input pressure to achieve the desired FPS *and* LPR pressure? I understand the relationship between the LPR/Dwell/Volumizer and the ball pressure (LPR) to volume to FPS relationship, so am I gonna need a bigger volumizer too? Is the MT volumizer larger than the stock Fly? (I know the Dirt one is by a lot!)

One other thing I thought of is that my mini-reg isn't flowing enough, but I disassembled it and it looked fine. (no apparent blockage)

Am I thinking correctly on all this or can a MT point me in the right direction?

With a long barrel like that you would need to raise the input pressure to get the ball up to the same speed of say a 14'' barrel. Maybe not by a lot, but it could have factored in a little bit I think. That's what I was told once anyways. :)

I was having the same problem. I sent my gun off to Russ and he did a turbo mod <--Not really sure what it does. Also he said the gun was not holding a charge as well as it should. Make sure you charge the gun on the way to the field so it has a good new charge. I think all my FPS problems stemmed from a low battery.

One thing you might try is to turn your minireg back down to about 170 psi and slowly turn up the minireg. Each time you turn it up crono your gun. I had my minireg pressure too high and could not get my gun above 260FPS. Once I turn it down to 225 psi with the medium volumizer on, it shot at 300FPS perfectly and consistantly. Good luck

I had the mini-reg wide open, that's what perplexed me.... the fact that I couldn't get it above 260 with a 375+PSI input while still allowing me run a low LPR and dwell setting.

I may still have a partial air blockage somewhere. I plan on disassembling the min-reg again and blowing out the passages with some compressed air as well as removing the solenoid and checking the gun's air passages the same way.

yeah, the minireg comes heavily greased from the factory. so does the lpr. If you want to, disassemble the minireg and wipe off all the grease. then apply gerase to only the piston. do the same with the lpr piston.
