ok, my dad is getting the ol Jeep tuned up, suspension rebuilt, engine and front end redone (6 cylinder stock) so it will be nice and restored when i get my learners, any ways he wanted me to ask all around to see if we should keep it a trail-rated Jeep, or jack er up? i can get a heck of a deal on a 4 inch lift from my dads buddy (250) and tires for cheap too. just wondering what yall thought,
Thanks,
JJand JJ's dad

Uh, first of all if you put a lift on a jeep doesnt mean its not trail rated...But hell yes jack her up i have an 85 cj7 with a Rubicon Express 5.5" suspension lift, and a 1' body lift, and 35" BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A's. Whats the point of leaving a Jeep stock? heh

all you need is a 1.75" lift, 32 inch tires, and some armor and rock guards ;) oh well my Wrangler sport is in for a frame straightening, 4' ditches are bad things lol

yes, jack it up...I recently put a 3" suspension lift on the Durango and I love it. You'll want to really make sure you get a good company.
You'll most likely want to remove fender flares, then start water proofing that bad boy.

"trail rated" doesn't mean much off the dealer lot. at least throw on a 4inch lift

actually with a Jeep "Trail Rated" does mean quite a bit. Technically they test all their suspension systems on the various hardcore 4x4 trails before putting them into production. The Rubicon is so named for the Rubicon trail, they've also used MOAB and a few other places for testing grounds. However seeing as this isn't a new Jeep, a suspension upgrade might be well warranted;)

BULL it's the same vehicle they just drove certain ones through the course and slapped a sticker on it. and it's far from "hardcore" testing. the rubicon is a different topic all together. it's built with dana 44's front and back, arb lockers, 4:1 crawl ratio and the wrangler mtr tires. "trail rated" means squat, if it's not a rubicon it's just like every other jeep on the lot.
done right suspension mods are a great idea. they can improve ride quality as well as off-road performance.

I need to get better pics of it, it's just all I had with me was my cell phone.
It really does look a lot nicer, and remember mine is a 98 so it's one of the original models. It only came in 4x4. It makes it look a lot better.

the last year before the body style switch...the new ones make me wanna puke
As for lift kits...Rancho has always made a good one for just about any model of off road vehicle.

Yea, after they bypass any hardparts, and pour concrete over the places they can't bypass....

.
Rubicons do NOT come with ARB lockers it just comes with regular lockers by some company nobodys ever heard of. And go to www.jeep.com they test these STOCK jeeps pretty hard, so trail rated does mean something, its more than anyother stock vehicle can do.

I must bow out on this one... they are not ARB, but are air lockers. Tru-Lok's as Jeep calls them.
Dash-mounted switches control the selectable front and rear locking Tru-Lok differentials. A pneumatic pump runs at just 6 psi for a quieter system than what is available in the aftermarket. When engaged, the axleshafts are mechanically locked to drive all four wheels at the same speed no matter how rough or uneven the terrain is. The lockers can be disengaged for tight turns and street duty.
and a stock TJ is the best off-road vehical, but far from hardcore. if you wish to buy the hype of "Trail Rated" go for it. Jeep is as Jeep does, sticker or not.

Eclipse This

he's not quite sure what he's look'n at. it's all good though i didn't know the diff between a super charger and a turbo when i was his age.
Well for a jeep there is absolutly no need for turbo or a charger.

lifts and big tires equal more money down the road. Do it if it is what you want. But remember, other things will wear much more often.
