View Full Version : Interested in a Fly

I am interested in either one of these three guns:
DM4
Alias
Fly
As of right now, I am thinking about going with the DM4. But, the Fly is a close second. Rght now I have a A4, which I have not got to shoot at ALL throughtout this whole summer. The reason for that is, right out of the box, the LPR was set at like 40, the Dwell was at 11, and the Reg Out-Put was at like 400, also there was a HUGE leak in the Solenoid. Those are some messed up settings right there. Every shot I took, I got Bolt Stick. So, I tried to start messing around with the Settings, thinking that would fix it. NO! It did nothing but make it worse. So, I decided to take the whole thing apart and see if anything was inside of it. It turned out, that there was Glue, yes, Glue opn the Hammer. It took a rag, Goo-Gone, and some elbow grease to get it off. I thought that some glue wouldn't stop 70 PSI, so I took more things apart. When Igot to the Air Passages, I found more Glue.
I dont know HOW this gun managed to get pass WDP. Maybe because they may use an assembly line and not check the Markers very well before they go out. All I know is that my LCD had NO problems like this.
This A4 I got from Ken Crane when Thog94 was selling the Black-to-Blue Fade and Blue A4's. I got the Fade A4.
Another MAJOR problem with it is that the Milling around the Feedneck area is completely off. It is not anywere near straight.
Again, I had some more touble with the Sensi. It broke right away. So I called up Ken, he said he would send one out. That was over a month ago. Still, no Sensi.
So as you can see, I am VERY unhappy with my A4 purchase, and wish to sell it and get something else.
Have any of your A4 Fly users had ANY problems with your A4 Fly out of the box?
I am thinking aobut going with the Dye DM4 because I know that 1 certified technician puts the whole gun together, and tests it before it goes out. So when I get it, there will be no problems with it, and if there somehow is a problem, I know DYE will break their back over trying to help me.....

the a4 fly is a much more low maintenance marker, ask any trix owners...u gotta lube it till it screams for mercy so itll work right, if u get an angel from one of the sponsors they will set it up before the gun is shipped. and if u wanna see the fly in action... there are a couple good vids around to show how sick this gat is... there is one in the video section and a few in the mt conversion section...

jetwing,
I already know what it can do, and the DM4 is just as fast. Pretty much any gun in that proce range is fast. Besides, those 3 guns are all faster than I would ever be able to shoot in a game...
Also, I bought the A4 from Ken, and it sure as hell was not set up...

I'm in the same situation. I'm leanin towards the fly, way less maintence and the external eyes are easy to adjust/clean.

Try telling that to my teammate who sent his DM4 in and it sat at Dye for over 2 months. And they first tried to rectify the problem by sending him some parts to fix it. Now thats Customer Service right there!

I bought my Fly used and have had no problems with it. They mow down muppets, no matter how good you are!!!! I was in the exact same position as you, used Fly, used DM4, or a used Alias. I chose the Fly. And I am ☼☼☼☼ing glad that I did.

I've owned both a dm4 and a fly... I would go with the dm4. The overall feel of the gun is just, I don't know how to describe it, it's just solid. I also don't understand why Hep was getting on Dye's customer service... they have absolutely bent over backwards to accomodate me on the two occassions where I have had problems.
Don't get me wrong, both guns are AMAZING but when it comes down to it, i would buy a dm4 every time.

Then whats the reason for this thread debating on switching to a non-Angel marker? :dunno: If Kens treating you right than no need to switch to another marker IMO.

Well if you read my post you would know why I said what I said. IT WAS THERE FOR OVER 2 MONTHS! And maybe your an isolated incident, glad they took care of you.

No.... I don't think its a 'isolated case'. While you cannot compare having the personal service of a MT to that of having to deal with a big company such as DYE, it does not make dye's service by any means bad.
Perhaps your friends gun is the isolated case... Dye has gone so far as to offer to send out free lifetime parts to ALL of its customers, in addition to offering to fix anything that's sent in *for the most part*. Dye is great, Angel MT's are amazing (I mean what can beat having the people who built your gun, service it).. i've had the pleasure of dealing with both 1st hand.
When it comes to trying to choose between 1400 dollar markers, it really is all about personal preference. YOU should go shoot each and decide what feels best, what will fit your playing style. I went out and shot timmy's, the fly, and the dm4. I ended up buying the fly and later switching to a DM$, but that's just me.
Good luck with the gun search, you can't really go wrong when you get into this price range.

i had 2 Dye cockers, the dye techs are complet arses, they take forever and take months at a time to fix the dang marker, and then after they fix it and you get it back it has ANOTHER piece broken on it, lets see, my speed had one problem and that was velocity which was easily fixed

Don't base your decision to buying a Fly or a DM4 on what happened with your A4, that is truly an isolated incident since everyone else on this board, and every Angel owner who isn't, will vouch for the Customer Service received from WDP and the Master Techs. I am a member of what we have started calling The Viper Nation and our main sponsor is Dye and I have no problem with them, they have been great to us. I play for Palm Beach Vipers - Dye team, we also have Palm Beach Vipers - Proto and Palm Beach Vipers - Switch, and in fact, most of the guys on the three teams that we are sending to Vegas shoot DM4s. I am the only one on the PBV - Dye team who doesn't actually and one of the reasons that I don't is because of the service that I've received from MTs like Ken, Russ, and Trevor just to name a few. I know that if I ever have a problem of any kind, especially at an event, that I can leave my baby with them and she'll be shooting darts before my next game. However, the only problems I've experienced at an event have been wanting a tirgger adjustment or a tune-up, which I usually do myself, but since I'm at an event I might as well take advantage of the experts. I recently got my Force back from Russ, who was going to do a conversion on her and add his magnetic trigger mod, the result was more than I could ever expect to have received given the little snag that happened along the way and how he handled it.
As said in above posts, at this price range in this market, the markers are all fairly equal and it just comes down to personal preference.
If you are still having your problems with the A4 I would recommend calling Ken directly, explaining the situation, and sending it into him. He, or any one of the other MTs will get your 4 straightened out.

I just talked to Ken this morning, and he said he would send the Sensi out.
I am sorry for coming on here and bitching, its just that I have not had this gun working all summer.
I am stillnot sure between the DM$ or Fly..

Did he say anything about being able to take care of the 'glue' issue with the marker? Does he even know about it?
tgaffner
08-16-2004, 03:13 PM
He knows about it, and I just ended up fixing it. I really dont want to be sending my gun out and stuff. That is pretty weird though to have Glue in my Marker....
I think I am going to sell the A4, then buy a Fly.

never trust dye with markers! i've never seen a dye marker yet that came from the factory without at least 1 problem! whether it be a bad o-ring or bad solenoid! i've seen many problems with all of their guns.
personally, i love ebladed cockers, timmys, and angels. it's a really hard choice between the alias and an a4 fly. try going to a pro shop and seeing if you can try both out and see which one you like more.
the alias is also very low maintenance and easy to clean even though it doesn't look like it

wrong place to say that buddy :wowzer:
you cannot say that the A4 isnt solid. Bogus. You can shake it and absolutely NOTHING rattles. It also only weighs 2.2 pounds. Do you know how hard it is to make somthing that light NOT rattle?

Hey, that was not my idea. She somehow got your number and called you. She told me what she did after i got off the phone with you. For that, I am sorry.
BTW, I have sent you emails before. Why would I need to send you an Email? You already know what package to track. I'll email you my address again and see if that helps.
I just finished up a deal to trade my Lasoya timmy and Halo for a fly. Probably the best decision i've ever made. Timmies have a lot of really annoying quirks. Like replacing batteries 3 times in one tourney. If the battery gets below like 8.5v the eyes stop working properly. And also you have to buy some annoying upgrades just to have the gun working properly (i.e. adjustable ram cap and super bumpers) This fly will be my 5th angel, no matter what I try I always seem to go back to the only masterpiece and the original machine gun.
Just my $.02
