Does anyone here scuba dive? I got certified about a month ago and man I'm lovin' every second of it. Too bad all there is up here is freezing cold lake diving...But its all good because my dad lives in florida and i visit him four times a year. I love this "sport" in my opinion just as good if not better than painball, its all natural, it's like an alien plaent down there. I'm going to Florida in december and I'm gonna dive and hopefully see some lemon sharks..i love sharks, too bad I havent seen one yet, but i will!!

Diving is great, been diving for a while now. You'll end up spending more money on diving than you do on paintball.

Well I have'nt been scuba diving yet but I do a crap load of snorkeling over here on Okinawa. Really dont do diving cause I have a...uheeemmmm....phobia of sharks cause I grew up in Southern Cali and off the coast over there all you have is Mako sharks and I had a not too great experience with some one time, so now I stick to 20ft and less of water, lmao.
However, the water over here is so damn clear you can see everything over here that you see on Discovery channel. Okinawa is rated number 2 to the Great Barrier Reef for snorkeling and diving so you can imagine how awesome it is. Also the water is so damn clear you can fart underwater and see the vapors in the bubble rushing to the surface, lmao :clown:

I've been certified since 95 and working towards my DiveMaster cert with PADI.

I lived in Hawaii for 3 years, and dove regularly. I haven't really dove since I moved back to the mainland, but I'll be hitting up a couple of nice dive locations on my Honeymoon...and well...the woman's already been told I'm going diving:rofl:

Hey Deadly, there aren't many sharks over in that area, brother. I dove there for 3 years w/ out seeing any sharks in Oki. Sunabe Sea Wall, Okuma, there are some beautiful sites to dive there. You need to try it.
Emmit, just make sure she knows you mean SCUBA diving ;) Not "the search for the bearded clam" I'm PADI certified too. Great system.

I didn't care too much for PADI, I really wanted CMAS but eventually settled for SSI since I couldn't find CMAS conveniently - that's what kept me for years without getting certified. Their requirements are more stringent I believe, curriculum suits me. Just went down and did SSI OW with my wife in Key West, made a vacation out of it. I've been diving for years, just never had my cert, so I took care of it, 'bout time too lol
I'm planning on going to DM in SSI, then cross-training in NAUI, then perhaps PADI since they're so damn popular I might as well have it. Check out www.scubaboard.com it's a cool place. It is a very expensive habit indeed though, at least I have the fortune of living in South Florida and being close to the Keys where diving is aplenty. I'm going to be in the shops' internet commercial www.divekeywest.com funny thing they just pointed at my wife and I and said, you guys will look better for the camera than our other students... we were laughing pretty hard. Great shop, great people there, check them out if you're going to dive the lower Keys.

Oh yeah, on the shark thing...
Shallow swimming is much more inviting to a shark, as you look like a fish in distress. Below just stay calm and wait for them to pass, if you don't mess with them they will rarely ever take much notice of you since the air bubbles and equipment everywhere doesn't make you look like much of a fish to them.

Forgot to mention, NAUI has a very funny play on the acronym: Not Another Useless Instructor lmao

I know, I know, it's just the whole ocean and shark thing, lmao!! So far the only places I have been snorkeling over here is Ie Island, Okuma, up by Nago and down on the west side of the island near Camp Hansen. I may give it a try before I end up leaving here, which is a pretty good chance that I will. We are comtemplating staying over here for another 3 years :aww:

I have been thinking of going back into diving...I havent been since my USMC days (There is something about doing it for a job on foreign soil takes alot of fun out of it)
I always hear about the wonders of the sea and such...lol.. I guess I should try it again now that I am de USMCed. ;)
In those brief moments of calm in the water...it was soothing.

Come on! I mean, I loved it there, too, but...
....you need to come to LeJeune so we can smoke some of these Timmy-totin' pansies together. I've got to tell you, you'd enjoy it!

Emmit

no...just 2 tanks...

as in 2 seperate dives...you dive 1 tank, then come back up to the boat, it goes somewhere else and you go down on the other tank...

Mmmm, I've always wanted to go down on a tank....

Anyway, I'm also PADI certified OW. I trained in Cyprus; 100 yard visibility in that water, easy. *happy gurgle*

you could always buy a scuba compressor off ebay and spend no money except for
gas for it.

Yeah, diving is def. as addictive as paintball. I'm just finishing up my divecon cert. under ssi. Between my camera/housing/strobes, regs, dive computers, tanks, wetsuits, drysuit and bc, I probably have 7 grand in dive gear.. hell my dry suit alone cost 2500. Then add in all the cost of training and certs. Mixed gas tech, nitrox, adv open, divecon etc... I'm probably up in the 10000 range. Good times though lol hahahaha

Here are some pics I took from molikini crater, while I was in maui, Hawaii. I know I have some more somewhere that are uploaded, i'll look for em. I haven't uploaded the ones from florida or canada yet but i'll post em when i do.

For safety reason, compressors need to be tested on a yearly basis for quality of air, that comes at a pretty penny. Trust me it's cheaper to get fills at the local scuba shop.

Emmit
08-01-2004, 10:22 PM
most places only charge a measilu $2.50-4.00 a fill, you can't beat that with a stick.

goodluck finding a Nitrox fill in the Caymans...That's sweet you're going to become a dive master Emmit, I lived in Hawaii for four years but i was too young to dive, ever heard of the Sea Lancers dive club in hawaii? my dad was in that club...he said it was awsome

Emmit
08-01-2004, 11:55 PM
I'm not Nitrox certified, so I won't even be considering that...

plus I don't think that Cruise ships bother with it, it'll just be regular diving.
