If you have Time Warner I-control you can see the future of paintball guns for free. This works with Houston Time Warner. Go to I-control, then choose "free" go to favorites, choose tech TV, choose gizmos & gadgets then choose "bug zapper." It is the last part of the program. The inventor of the bug zapper has developed an electromagnet gun the needs no power source other than batteries. He shoots a lead bullet head through a 2x4 with it. Once refined, someone will take his invention & make it shoot paintballs at 300 FPS. There you have it, an Angel with no tank that will shoot the exact FPS you dial in.

I don't think i would like that, only because the weight of the gun would be really uneven. Good idea, but you wouldn't see me using it. (unless i got it free :D)

it would be kind of wierd without a tank because how would you hold your gun??? you would have to buy some type of stock.

Rail guns and paintball markers are not similar...I do not see this technology being compatible....let alone affordable

Some guy in my local area is working on one.... but thats just rumors ive heard. its powered by small fans. ill believe it when i see it.

Nah i would rather have the tank "air is too much fun to fill with those push button fill stations!!" but it would save money

its not powered by fans its powered my magnetisum of some sort. i have seen the program on tv. i dont see this becoming a PB marker for one it would be really heavy and two it would be really expensive.

so, you wanna put a metal pellet in every paintball so they can shoot?
yea that sounds like a terrific idea!
how else would you shoot them with magnetic power?

the bolt would be metal and would get pulled foward at high speed just like pb guns bolts except they use air.

no, this guy is supposably making one that uses fans.

Must be super tiny fans

Even if they did slam the bolt forward with extreme velocity, the marker still requires some type of energy to propel the paintball out of the marker. This can't be provided without inserting some type of metal in the paintball as mentioned previously. Sounds like this technology will not work with a paintball.

then what?...
if all the gun does is slam the ball with the bolt, all you'll get is paint soup....

The magnet pulls the bolt forward propelling the object at the dialed in speed. Do you really think the lead bullets are propelled by the magnets in the prototype?
I still remember when we played with CO2 then nitro came on the market. Everyone said it would NEVER work. Too big, too heavy, too expensive & no where to fill them. Goes to show. If you are the type of person who says something will never work just stay out of the way of the people doing it & you will not be ran over. Remember, there are two types of people in this world. People that wake up confused & say what the freak just happened & people that made it happen.

Actually the lead bullets are propelled by the magnets. The bolt is slid forward to keep the lead out of the operators head. :duh:
Would it be possible to bring the bolt forward with enough acceleration to bring the paintball to 300 fps muzzle velocity and keep from turning the paintball into soup??? I don't think so, but that don't make it fact.

.02$ Lead is NON magnetic, hence a "projectile thrower" would not be able to use magnets to propel said projectile. Little steel BB's maybe but not lead. All in all, I think that that technology for paintball is a "little" down the road,, far enough that we might not see it in our life times.
I see better machining techniques making markers smaller, more efficient and much more consistent but still see "air" being the best solution out there.

exactly, OR they would need to use extremely thick shells which wouldnt be practicle,
even today's low pressure guns blow up brittle paint in the breach every now and then, and the bolt barely touches the ball
to propell the ball using just the bolt and no air isnt gonna happen, because if there is nothing pushing the bolt behind the breach and you have a very close paint/barrel match the ball will most likely just get stuck in the barrel if the bolt doesnt break it first from the tremendous impact

We have to open up our thinking. Stop thinking of a bolt as a hard chunk of plastic. Just a few years ago the soft nose bolt came on the market from WDP. A great improvement IMHO. Look what AGD has done with the level 10 bolt. Who would have dreamed that a Mag would stop blending paint because of a new bolt just a few years ago?

My bad, I am thinking rail gun which uses electromagnets to propel steel projectiles to incredible speeds at muzzle velocity. I wasn't thinking straight when I made the lead bullets comment.

with a soft bolt would be even harder to propell the ball to 300fps as the bolt will absorb most of the impact so the ball will probably go pretty much nowhere

well its not the force of the bolt that propels the ball, its the air, so a soft-face bolt that cushions the ball forward so it can be prepared to be launched by the air shouldnt have much of an effect on velocity

I think that earlier Won had made the presumption that a paintball could be launched magnetically. This could only be done with the force of the bolt. His thought was to do away with tanks and the need to refill air etc. All of the other has been logic examining the presumptions and how it would work.
