PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A woman escaped serious injury after being shot in the eye with a pellet fired from a paintball gun as she was driving, officials said.
Donna Jo Porto, 49, said she had just rolled down her driver's-side window Monday evening when she heard a pop - which turned out to be a marble-sized paintball projectile, officials said.
"It was pretty scary. It slammed me in the face so hard it knocked me back," Porto said. "I was afraid I was going to lose my eye. But somehow I kept the car under control and stopped."
Porto turned her vehicle around, drove to her parents' home and was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital, where she was treated and released.
Escambia County sheriff's officials received several complaints regarding juveniles shooting at cars with a paintball gun in that area Monday. No suspects had been caught through Tuesday, a sheriff's report said.
