Jason.......where are you hearing that info? Perhaps we need to let everyone know where they can get the COPS2 if they have a microswitch

So from what I am hearing from everyone is that I have to pay $150 bucks. Send my iR3 to England. Just so WDP can upgrade my mem5 opto board software to mem6a?? Couldn't a WDP certified tech in the States do this? If I am wrong, let me know.

SuperFly......if that $150 is a correct amount you won't get an upgraded board, you will get a completely new board. That means it would be MEM6 not 6A. You'd get your gun back with all the defaults of a new board, your PIN would be on it, and you'd have 0 shots.

I'm new,so I might be wrong but cant you just order a replacement board and put it in your self.
Would this not be like replacing a cracked display?

Could you not obtain one for back up,if you took it to a WDP cert center? Such as WARPED SPORTS.

a while back i read an announcement in the product news section saying that WDP is working on a cheaper alternative for microswitch board users, so that we wouldnt have to pay that full $150 charge.... any new news on that?

"WDP is working on an exchange program for microswitch board users to obtain an optoboard and COPS2. No details, prices or any other definitive information is available. Stay tuned to AOG/WDP's website for more information."

I just sent my IR3 mem 4 board to WDP and they said it was only going to be $35 to upgrade my board to a mem6a and give me cops 2. It may be 150 if you have the microswitch. I hope this helps.

WDP can't just send the MEM6 program to angel techs. WDP doesn't own the software. A company that disigned it does. WDP apearently doesn't have the money to buy it right now. Also, if the program was floating around, it could be hacked easier.

I thought WDP was just going to upgrade every gun at major tournaments. It would be the safest thing to do.

I'm glad they also worked out a MEM3a.

Is there some more news on this item. I currently don't own an IR3 yet, but I'm in the process of buying a second hand C&C silver or maybe a new one. If I can get a cheap upgrade from a microboard to opto, then I can buy the second hand one, but if it's gonna cost 150$ + shipping, then I might be getting a new one, since the difference between the 2 in price will be quite small.

How do I see what version board is in an IR3?

Turn it on, watch the board. What MEMx flashes up? MEM1-3 is microswitch, MEM4-6 is Opto (except in extreme cases). Open the grip up, the opto board is black.

My recommendation however is go new if you want the new software, and the opto trigger. As of right now the only thing we've figured out is that you will have to send it to WDP in England to change it, there is no hard evidence to state what any of the service centers are charging to do a swap or if they can. I think both Cobra, and Warped have been contacted by vairous people and to date they have had no luck.

Ok thanx. The thing I'm missing in most of the discussions here is: Is optoboard really a big change from microswitch and is it worth the money to upgrade to it if it is not present?

the opto board gives you a completely different feel to the gun. You will not be able to create trigger bounce, however you will be able to get the trigger pull shorter than ever before through some tinkering, and adjusting.
