View Full Version : Leaking Air Out Of Safety Vent

Have a new AIR that was working fine for the first week. Then showed low battery on the display. Went to replace the battery before reading the manual. Missed the step for initializing the air and just refilled the marker. The display did not show the pressure reading for the output to the marker. Figured my mistake out and emptied tank and removed batteries and them reinitialized again. This time pressure reading came back but could not turn pressure above 600 psi without it leaking out the safety. I am stumped whether the safety is bad or somehow the calibration is off and really I am at a much higher pressure than what my AIR is showing me on the display. Anyone had this problem before or is it maybe just a coincidence that the safety went out during the battery situation. Any help is appreciated.

chances are that your digital display is wrong, you're supposed to make sure the tank is completely empty when you replace the batteries. Best way to do this is remove the tank from the AIR reg. It will screw off by hand once you get the air out. I'm guessing that you did make sure it was empty though right?

Yes, after reading the manual I went through the entire procedure of having no pressure in my tank, removed the batteries, replaced the batteries, and had the system reinitialize itself...all seemed ok but still had the leaky safety. I think I should get a pressure guage and put on output from the regulator to see for sure whether its leaking at 600 or really at something higher. If you have a better way I am all ears.

Do you have the spares that came with the AIR? Or actually the AIR replacement kit? You might want to pull the safety tab off, and look at the pressure disk under there. Replace it if you can. Also check the o-rings you got there.
As a last resort I'd recommend pulling the reg apart, and looking at all the internal o-rings, and replace as necessary. If none of that works try giving Ken Crane a call. He helped me immensly when I had a creeping reg, and saved me the hassle of having to send it off for repairs. I'm waiting on my AIR Tool Kit to arrive, but this is something I seriously recommend purchasing at the minimum for the o-rings, and spares.

I do have a spares kit for my AIR. Was thinking of replacing the disc but the manual calls for it to be torqued to and I don't have something that can torque that screw. Don't know whether anyone actually torques the screw or not but have been a bit concerned about replacing it. I will try and see what happens.
