Ok, i went to cobra paintball on saturday and asked the guy about upgrades. He said they would swap out my MEM 3 for a MEM 6 w/ cops 2 i believe and all the good stuff. And then i asked him about the MEM3 to MEM3a and he said that it cost $35 and it DOES have cops 2...just though i'd share this with you all since it seems a lot of people have been saying cops 2 does not come with the MEM 3a

this must be a new, recent development; I had my Dark upgraded to MEM3a at WC and it still has the original COPS.

isnt 3a just the upgraded software for the microswitch?
I also thought that as of now the microswitch doesnt have COPS2 software available. but WDP was working on it

This sounds about right, because he said that they were waiting for the boards from WDP

Subject: could you clear this up.
Hello,
I am asking if you could please clear up this mess that has been going around here in the US. This is a quote from Jay Fearing in the Ir3 forum of the angel-owners site:
I've heard numerous stories from different people. I unfortunately have a rough time believing any of them. But I respect each person that tells me. Here is what I've heard:
Scenario 1
COPS2 is only available on the MEM6 and MEM6A boards. Only optoboards can be upgraded to MEM6A.
Scenario 2
MEM3A does not have COPS2. It is an upgraded version of the microswitch software that fixed a charging issue.
Scenario 3
WDP was working on a MEM3A version that would allow microswitch board users to have COPS2. Last I heard they achieved this and it's available from the factory.
Scenario 4
Certain service centers are "upgrading" boards to MEM6. In reality they're swapping boards out .
Basically all I am asking if you could just list all the mem boards and what they do (why they are different) and specifically which boards can/do have the COPS 2 software. Thank you for your quick response in clearing this up.
Sincerely,
Steve Lutz

Actually Owen stated, during a conversation a few weeks ago, that the factory was working on a way to upgrade micro switch boards and it appears they have found a way. This information might be incorrect as of today.
However, I think your last sentence is incorrect in #3 so the entire statement is not incorrect. They might have found a way to upgrade to COPS2 in the microswitch boards......but perhaps have decided not to make this available. Since COPS2 is a major improvement with the IR3 boards I am sure they will stay on it.
Now we just have to find a way to get those MEM upgrades done in the states. Soon we will have the ability to swap "out of date" MEMs for current software boards and exchange MS boards for OS boards. With the current exchange price of course ;)
