I've never seen it that bad, but since I was gone last month it was to my surprise to see the prices up about 30 cents a gallon. Can't wait until tourist season so they can really hit us hard.

I'm glad this isnt a tourist town as the peak for gas prices hasnt even came and were at 2 bucks a gallon already.

Hmm using some coversions and todays gas price, gas here is: $2.88USD per 1 US Gallon. Man am I ever glad I will only be filling a 4.5 gal tank after this weekend. Thats $12.96 per 150 miles :)

yeah whatever guys in Cali, $2.30 cheapest, beat that. I seen $2.60 per gallon and thought it was for cigs LOL. I have a 4 banger and it's a 15 gallon and i pay around $25 per tank my moms 4runner is like nearly $45-$50 and it's not empty. Sick and this is why we bombed Iraq, for higher gas prices and we have to pay those bombs too!

Down with Bush, I want back Clinton and he can't sleep with as many heavy interns he likes. I'll open a dry cleaning in DC for him if he likes.

Canada has always had higher gas due to tax but your government takes care of you and doesn't use tax and gst for toilet paper

Shut up right now!

The US going into Iraq has nothing to do with gas prices. You realize OPEC has cut back production 2 times in the last year? They've cut it back by almot 2 million barrels. That is a HUGE cutback. In case you didn't know the US is not part of OPEC, and we can't control their production.

Now go read Amendment 22, Clinton can't come back. Please go educate yourself first.

Be careful what you say can't happen. Bill can't be prez again but Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton sure can. Don't think she is spending time being a NY Senater for nothing. Scary. Very Scary.

I just got a email saying that May 19th is 'Stick it to them day'. Where if no one buys gas for just that one day, the oil companys will have a net loss of 4.6 billion dollars and they would choke on their stockpiles. I think this is a good idea and it asked to spread the word. If any of you want this email send me your address and email it to everyone you know.

as for the e-mail on the 'boycott" check out snopes.com

they point out what I didn't feel like typing...unless everyone in the US decides to start walking or riding a bike to work for a month + it won't make a difference if you buy gas on Monday or Friday...you're still buying gas.

Profits are reported qaurterly not daily. Even if everyone skipped a day buying fuel the end result is the same amount of gas is sold at the end of the week.

Matt, it's funny you mention that gas station in Santa Barbara.

Down at the bottom of the hill my buddy and I just filled up at an Exxon/Mobil for the extremely reasonable price of $2.89/gallon for mid-range. We were chatting with a guy in a 360 Spyder next to us and he said: "I need to find my car cover and moth ball this thing next week."

What was I thinking when I decided to move to San Diego!

Our base prices were 2.19 last I checked. I can get regular for 2.25 at regular stations close to the base, but where I live near East Lake, it's 2.45 for regular. Got a 91 Camaro, she eats up the gas at a decent rate. I gotta start shopping for a bike quick.

idirtryder13
05-16-2004, 09:46 PM
yeah, its like $2.17 over here in NOR*NEV, up in Reno we had a shortage and they were closing gas stations all over. This sucks, just when i get my license, the gas price spikes up.

This is part of the reason i sold my VR-4...15mpg exactly wasnt practical. After seeing a 25cent spike this past month, its making me think twice about buying a chip

Gas just went up 4 cents a gallon since yesterday. It's going to be a long tourist season over here. Just another reason to ride the Harley.

are bikes really that much more efficient on gas though? My buddy was saying that his Jetta gets better mileage than his 600 bike.

Maybe these gas prices will lead to people being a little more conservative and force politicians to rethink their city infrastructure plans. Fuel isn't guaranteed to be around for ever and realistically we haven't made a tonne of progress in making transportation easier and more efficient.

Emmit
05-19-2004, 09:48 AM
the thing about a bike is that it only holds a couple of gallons at a time, but they still typically manage to get 100-150+ out of it...so since you still manage to drive for a week on it, it costs a little less

drkanglr
05-19-2004, 10:07 AM
I had an FZR 600 for about 3 years that used to get me up to almost 300 miles on a full tank w/ the reserve. Still only cost me $5 or so at the time, I'd get another one now, too if I lived in a town that was safe to bike in. I may end up investing some money in a Trek or a Cannondale at this rate.

fortunately I live close enough to work 4days of the week that I can bike (I've got a Giant, good bike), and we've got showers at work. My only real concern is that since I've got to be in at 6am it's still dark so I have to wear reflective crap to make it in safe. If it wasn't for all the rain we've been getting lately I'd be riding my bike again. Plus because of where my office is I just bring my bike into the office:biggthump

warpedx

Rain sucks on a bike, powered or not. I've got a 14 mile commute, just too lazy to pedal through that every day. I'm actualy looking at a 91 or 92 FZR my neighbor has had holed up in his garage forever. Things only got 4,000 miles on it.

Roads in SoCal are not really great for cycles now. Budget cuts and roads are actually look like crap.

Warped, you need to jump on that deal! Just make sure the engine will still turn over, and ease her back into service. I loved mine, and I'd get another in a heartbeat if my wife wasn't affraid I'd be meat waffles on it.

Can't wait to bust out the bike this weekend, but $5.00 isn't going to fill the tank like it did before. I'll gladly pay 10 to ride it all day long.
