TK actually works offshore, and his boat has been out for a while this trip, it's a fairly long trip, he's due back in a couple more weeks.

n. pl. hi·a·tus·es or hiatus
A gap or interruption in space, time, or continuity; a break: “We are likely to be disconcerted by... hiatuses of thought” (Edmund Wilson).
Linguistics. A slight pause that occurs when two immediately adjacent vowels in consecutive syllables are pronounced, as in reality and naive.
Anatomy. A separation, aperture, fissure, or short passage in an organ or body part.

Well because we cant understand a word Ken says in typing and Matts the worse to get a hold of period. But we always have our weekly chats and draw straws of who we are gonna ban next. OOPS did I say that outloud??

Even though I also get stuck with the late shift until I get my promotion. But hey you gotta put your time in and I always got time for a beer late at night.

say what? that we all talk on a regular basis?

What you might not realize is that we're all friends, and we chat constantly...Hep has been known to start a 3way call and not tell us he's doing it...

Hep, Thog and myself constantly chat with each other trying to pass information on, and figure out the best way to handle certain issues that pop up. We are a team, and none of us are doing this alone, nothing we do (or start) is ever done without discussion first.

ARRRRRR!!! I've pissed more salt water than you've sailed under.

240+ sea days a year since 1990.

Shellback, Golden shellback, Order of the ditch, Red nose, Blue nose, and a few others that are kicking around somewhere.

Going to sea runs in the family and gets in the way of paintball.

Its an ocean research vessel. There are really two crews, one crew that runs the boat, and one that does the research. Of course the crew that runs the boat is much cooler than the "scientists". Then again, some of the "scientists" are hot. I know :)

Hes not in any of the pictures.

We use longline gear to catch whatever decides to hit the bait. I'm home for a few days so I'll post pics of all our gear later on in the week. We actually don't try to kill any of them. It's a tag and release program, but obviously some don't make it. We like it when the Tuna, Swordfish, and Mahi Mahi are dead, they taste real good on the grill.

We also did some ROV work and the pics from that were pretty good. The underwater camera work is great and some of the sealife down there is amazing.

Vantage is correct for the most part, I'm not in any of the pics. However we have a crew and there are also scientist onboard who do the paper work and such. They are wusses and don't handle much of the manual labor, so anyone lugging a fish arounds is probably one of my guys.

I'm old school, and crucify me for saying this, but women don't belong at sea. I've gotten in trouble for saying that at work before. I do enjoy the eye candy, but the headaches that come with it isn't worth it.

Sorry Mamba misread it, getting tired trying to soak up some missed TV. I'm the deck boss, I don't deal with the fish as much as my guys do so my smelly days are over. I don't even have to filet my fish, the guys do it for me (it's good to be king). After every tow we all wash up, the only thing that usually smells like fish is the deck and your oilers. I buy a special soap that takes the fish scent off, so the only people that smell are the ones that don't wash.

mamba_juice
05-10-2004, 02:25 AM

Been around the block once or twice, now it's nice to stay close to home. I feel for ya with all the women on board. If you ever read old sea tales, they tell you if a women was to be onboard she should be nekkid. Back in the day when ships were made of wood and men were made of iron all the women on the bows (can't remember the nautical term now) were topless. I still bitch at the guys for whistling and hate leaving on a Friday amongst other things. Just old school, there's no other way to put it.

no whistling, no talking of horses, no pics of horses etc...

and yeah...no fricken women!!!

One of the benefits of being a Sumariner was that we never had to worry about women on board...now when I worked Seismic that was a different story..
