Angel A4 - 9000 frustrated shots on the counter ;)

The problem:
Gun shoots fine at less than 5-6 bps, as soon as I begin to shoot over 10bps I get a chopped ball. 90% of the time its the top half of the ball, and it wraps around the bolt locking it forward.
This happens with, or without sensi on.

What Ive tried so far: replaced ball detents, replaced bolt, triple checked ram placement, completely broken down and greased multiple times. Multiple sensi tests, with multiple paints.

I should also mention that I have taken the A4 tech class @ huntington and have tried everything the guys told us in the troubleshooting day of the class, and Im sure its all assembled right.

The class doesnt go into great detail of the settings though, so I'm hoping for help here.

Completely default settings has the problem.

Dwell: 11
TR: 1
LPR: 80-82
Semi 1 (ive also tried 2, and 3)
Angel AIR output 595psi (could this be the issue?)
minireg output ~225-250 (hard to read the lil guage)
chrono of about 285

The only thing Ive tried (with no success), is following some of the setup guides on these forums, using the longest expansion, lpr 60ish, dwell 16-17. Ive also tried moving the TR around with no luck.

Gettting pretty frustrated, Any ideas?

Make sure SENSi is on. The red blinking LED is your friend.

sensi is on, and calibrated. should add: using evo II, Y and Z board and seems to be feeding just fine.

Sounds like the sensi isn't on.
you do ball drop test?

tank output seems high but you can lower it. Look at the A4 settings sticky by emmitt.

Have you checked for SENSI bounce ?

To check for this. Turn on the gun. Go live with SENSI mode 1 activated (make sure light is flashing). Load a hopper with about 20 balls.. Shoot all of them. Continue to dry fire as fast as you can. You should be firing no faster than about 1 bps -- evenly spaced shots. Anything else and you are getting SENSI bounce.

I would also recommend lowering the LPR pressure. Mine is actually so low now (45 psi) that I couldn't chop if I tried. The bolt bounces off the balls. I can no longer count how many cases of paint it's been since I chopped.

your tank output is VERY high
reccommended is 400-450 ... 450 max

The mini reg can handle those pressures easily. It's just not the recommended pressure, but certainly 450 is not the maximum it will allow. This should not be causing his chops.

i know the reg can handle those pressures easily, just saying, he should lower it

Without hearing the marker shoot it's difficult to diagnose, however I would recommend trying a different ram. If that does not change anything then you will need to try a different solenoid.

The input pressure I mention is not important. He can adjust it. It's only a recommendation.

I find it funny he's chopping at 10 bps because the balls should be almost semi-force feed into breech with evo and faster than the gun.

Try to rip the gun with dry fire. Try and see if the gun can reach 15-20 bps normally. Then look down the feedneck to see if bolt goes all the way back at 10 bps. It's fast but you can tell.Seems like the bolt wont set at the way back for ball to feed during the high bps. I think you should reset the ram stroke and do it exactly as the directions are.

It's kinda like the half stroke or bad timing on cocker and the shells jams the bolt so you can't pull the bolt.

Also make sure the hopper works good and no bad paint. you should empty the egg in about 10 secs give or take

Thanks for the replies,

To answer:

ricecrispi, yes sensi is on and Ive done the test. But since the gun reacts in the same manner with it on, or off - Im beginnging to think its a hardware issue....

cveale, I'll try that. The problem is actually getting through those 20 pulls (if I pull it above 10bps) without the stick. I'll try, but as I mentioned since it goes crazy with or without sensi on Im beginning to fear its something else :(

pi.moon, ugh! just what I was afraid of. I know someone else with an A4. I'll see about trying his ram/solenoid. Thanks!

Appreciate the input guys!

edit: ricecrispi, I'll re-check the ram again ;)

I had the same problem. I just setted the dwell to 16 TR to 18 with mid volumiser. Then it worked fine. By the way does someone know this: If i turn on my A4 and make it live then the sensi light flashes from begin on. (Sensi test is ok) Is this normal? That i can be sure it works I hit always two times the orange button. (red is permanent, after it flashes) Has anyone else this strange thing?

Sensi will be in whatever mode you had it when you turned the marker off last (ie if Sensi was on, it'll be on when you go live and vice versa). You want to have Sensi on at ALL times IMO.
