eBay is only the medium; you want to investigate each of the sellers, rather than the medium through which they sell, to determine how much trust you should place in those transactions.

You might be getting factory "seconds"--large chips in the anno, asymmetrical milling, barrels out of tolerance to marked bores--or you might be getting the finest equipment out there. No way to tell unless you've bought from that seller before and are a tech with all the tools and knowledge to tell the difference.

If you're looking at getting a new marker, seriously consider skipping eBay and going straight to the MT's. If an old marker is more like what you're after, head over to our classified forums. If you opt for the latter, you can always offer a slight premium ($50 or so) if the seller sends it to one of the sponsors for a rebuild and inspection before you send the money.

eBay can be a great source of good deals (I got my Pipe from there), but it's definitely a case of, as the Romans used to say, caveat emptor--buyer beware.

For the larger purchases I try to stick to larger, more well-established stores and the MT's of course. But there are good deals out there. I usually only buy from stores that sell stuff on eBay, rather than the typical private seller.

if you must go with ebay make sure you READ THE WHOLE AUCTION before you bid. There are many ppl on ebay will try to decive you by having something like brand new Angel 4 in the title, then in the auction they are really selling posters and have a little blurb at the bottom of the auction telling you. I have seen this one before.

Just make sure you read the entire auction many times before you bid, and if you r unclear on something ask a question. Always understand exactly what the user is selling, and in what condition before you bid.

There are certain things i go to ebay to buy. But In most cases i find dealing with a credited store (like our sponsers) or the forums i trust (like this one) much easier and safer. check out the classified section, there are some great deals floating around.

I'd suggest always asking questions. Even if it's to confirm with the seller what is being sold. Email the seller and when you get a response print it out to keep as a record. Also the reputable sellers are usually the only ones that reply to email questions. If a person doesn't reply to my question (within a reasonable time) I usually won't consider the auction further.
