I'm sure everyone has seen it by now, but just in case

The NPPL Rules Committee has made the following rule change effective immediately concerning Padding in Jerseys.

Padding in Jerseys will be limited to elbows and forearms only. Such padding must follow the criteria listed below or an approved equal. The NPPL will no longer allow jerseys to be worn on the playing field that contain padding in the garment that does not follow the criteria set forth below.

---
9.09 Padding in Jerseys
Padding in jerseys will be limited to the forearm and elbow only. Padding size will be limited to 4" in over all width and extend from the wrist to 4" past the elbow.
Padding Material will be limited to an ESTHERBASED OPEN CELL FOAM Backed with a NYLON TRICO at a maximum thickness of 3/16 or an APPROVED EQUAL

APPROVED EQUALS must be submitted to the rules committee and approved in writing from the NPPL to be considered Approved Equals. Samples may be sent to:

NPPL
Material Test
417 Main Street Suite 201
Huntington Beach, Ca 92648
(714) 536-9050

Materials will not be returned to sender.
---

The Ruling made and enforced in the NPPL Super 7 World Series 2004 Huntington Beach event was done so on a temporary basis to allow the Rules committee adequate time to properly address the issue of padding in jerseys. If you currently own a jersey that does not meet the criteria in Section 9.09, the jersey may be altered by having the padding removed.

kinda sorta....means that they can't wear their jersies with excessive padding in them...either in the shoulder area or the elbow area...they can remove the padding tho, or they can choose not to wear elbow pads underneath their jersey

sort of...many events model their rules after the NPPL rules structure...most rules that the NPPL adopts, local events adopt later. I wouldn't be surprised to see local events making the same ruling very soon...heck one of the largest projected tournaments in Texas is now considering it.....

That kinda sucks if you just spend a load of cash on the new 04 dye jerseys. Even if they can alter the padding I don't want them screwing up my new jersey and then not replacing it. I think this might not be a good rule if you ask me I mean whats the point of having less padding? Why does it even matter ?

well...how would you feel if you got a bouncer on a usually successful shot

bobjim...go back and watch some vids of the 02 Cup in Orlando just before the split when the DYE jersies first started coming with some of that padding...I've seen paint bounce off the pads in the shoulders, I've seen paint bounce off the elbow pads etc...they are limiting the amount of padding in the jersey to avoid bounces off gear, it's just like the rules about hopper covers, and tucking in your jersey etc...until there's a rule people will always push the limits of what's legal...now there's a rule and people will have to live with it.

They had talked about this last year, but didn't do it, this year they decided they would. We'll see what happens...

more padding=more bounces
i think this is a good rule, except 3 of my guys just got the 04 dye c4's which are now illegal, oh well, we'll stick with the JT Pro series and wear Dye elbow pads, which are still legal

Also look at it this way. More padding = more bounces = more people cheating with velocity because they become frustrated with all the bounces. Get one of those 350fps shots in the neck or kidneys from close I'm sure you're trade that for a little bit of extra elbow or shoulder padding.

So will the C4 jeresys be in violation of this or not?

if they have padding in the shoulders, and more padding than allowed in the elbows then yes.

makes you wonder what the dye 05 line will be like

DYE as a whole probably won't care....DYE is not a NPPL sponsor, therefore they really don't care. This does however affect teams that wanted to sport DYE jersies, or DYE teams that happen to be playing both series.

I dont have one, but I was under the impression that the Dye C4 jersey didn't have pads in the shoulders like the 03 Dye jersey. The padded forearms should still be legal though.

yes they have shoulder pads. I hope they don't adopt that rule into my local tourneys

Most local tourneys (if they are on the smaller side), probably wouldnt say anything. They are geared more towards fun, and there isnt large amount of cash involved.

i know not as many dye teams play nppl as they do psp, but knowing dye i wouldnt be surprised if they got their act together and change the design of their jerseys. that sux for people who just bought them and plan on playing in the super 7 series, kinda makes you think why jt never serious padding on their jerseys.
