hey, i was at my local field this past weekend and someone told me not to use a straight shot in my ir3 because it will ruin the cops. someone tell me if this is true or not.

Yeah its true. The thing abut using it on and Ir3 is that is has a cops sensor back by the bolt so if you push your sqeugee back to far you can end up damaging your cops. What you can do is make a mark on your squegee with a pen or a piece of tape and use that as a reference point as to where to stop so you wont hit your cops rod.

Isn't cops supposed to keep you from needing to use your squeege? Kind of a catch-22 thing.
Karr I do the same exact thing. But then when you let your friends use your gun w/ the a strait shot. bang, costs you 6$

yeah DO NOT use a straight shot. It will break your COPS rod. In the instances where I've had to clean barrels out (ie dirt or just oil etc) I've been using a Redz battle swab (the kind that come with those awesome Redz pants) and it's worked beautifully. I haven't carried a straight shot since I bought my IR3, and the only time I ever used the battle swab was when I was blowing up brittle paint. Turn COPS on, and you'll be much happier
I agree with Emmit. I use a Redz Battle Swab and it works great when I need it. Usually only need it when I get shot in the barrel and the paint goes through the porting. Don’t really need it for ball breaks because COPS does its job well without slowing down the ROF when adjusted correctly.

The COPS sensor...how far should it stick up into the chamber? Can it be shortened somewhat to help prevent the nicking of a ball as it is launched?

How exactly would you damage your cops with a straight shot? You would have to push the straight shot about 3/4 of the way into the breach, which would break the ball that was chambered, and make an ugly mess. If you have any concept of where your barrel ends and your breach begins it doesn't seem like it would be much of a problem.

people have a tendency to push the squeegie all the way back. Besides if you chop where is the paint? Right in front of the bolt is it not? If the bolt jams what do you have to do to fix it? Shove something in there to push the bolt back....well this is where straight shots are getting people in trouble...the disk is breaking the COPS rod.

Stupid question but I'll ask anyways...
So we won't damage the COPS at all if we use a swab? Meaning that theres pretty much no risk involved? What about normal swabs as opposed to Redz swabs?

I use the Redz swab as stated above. The thing about using the swab is that the fluffy part of it is what goes over the top of the COPS rod, so you don't break the rod, with a straight shot the hard rubber disk is what's breaking the rods.

Even stupider question...
Why don't they make the cops rod out of something a little more durable? Like brass or Stainless steel. If that was too heavy for the sensor why not a delrin or PET plastic (cheep).
I also think a Stainless Steel cops rod would transfer the ball touch energy a lot nicer too.
Hummm someone should look into that, and if it works, I THOUGHT OF IT FIRST :P.
