I was helping a local shop owner set up some Fly's and we were running into some shoot down problems and kicking problems. We found out the gun out shoots PMI regs...scary..but to move on..the kicking problem remained. I called Ken Crane and asked him for some advice on how to smooth the gun out and this is the sweet settings:

Dwell: 11-12
LPR: 50 (ish)
TR: 12-15
Input pressure: 250 psi

So far the gun feels pretty smooth, I thought I would take the time out to post this for everyone, and again say Ken Crane is the guy to go to for your Angel needs. Extremely helpfull!

raise the dwell its to low for that low of LPR try 16-18

Input pressure is the pressure from minireg to gun right?

yea raise that 2 its should be about 300-350

Two things:
Yes, PMI regs are terrible. Friends don't let friends buy low-flow regulators. I know of no other tank that consistently fails to recharge quickly, other than the AIR preset, which is a PMI reg, after all.
You didn't mention it, so I thought I'd emphasize--be sure and put the volumizer on if you're going to try the settings above, or you'll be "vewwy vewwy" unhappy!

dude those settings are the ones ken put in my gun, and wow, they are AWESOME. no movement of the gun at all.

Believe it or not you can get away with the 12ms dwell & 55psi LPR combo on the fly. I don't know what they did but it rails.

I'm planning on dropping the LPR down to 35psi by the end of the month when the marker is broken in.

A little off topic, but how do you adjust input pressure, and what does it come at stock?

when you say 250psi or 350 if i have angel air what should my pressure coming out of the tank into the gun be because i dont think it has a minireg that you can change.

your air system should be putting out about 300psi

and what do you mean you can't change your minireg? you can that's what the velocity screw is doing is changing the pressure...however without the gauge found on the 4 you won't know what it's set at.

why did they remove the gauge? didnt people like it?

I wish my Fly had the gauge. I make do with a selfmade "cap" but I have to take the reg off the marker every time I adjust. Pain the "WHAT"??

would it matter if i run those settings with a lp crossfire preset? would i have to adjust the dwell in any way?

no, it doesn't matter....as long as you get your LPR and dwell set right.

So why can't you use those settings without the volumizer? And is there a thread or link that explains how to adjust your dwell setttings according to your LPR pressure etc.?

Thanks!

it's due to the volume that's needed....

we've talked about this plenty of times now...HP=LV, LP=HV

the lower the pressure the more volume you need so you have to run the larger volumizer and turn your dwell up.

Thanks, I think I'm getting it now. :) Weird thing is my dwell came at 11, and according to posts on here the factory LPR is 50-55ish. So are'nt those settings pretty close to stock?

Emmit

on the Fly yes...you might want to check your LPR tho.

Due to the ANgel Eyeq they were able to remove the diverter plate and open up the air passages internally which allowed for more volume allowing them to turn pressures done quite a bit before putting a voulmizer on the marker.

Thanks!
So if you put the volumizer on, do you have to adjust anything else, or can you use it for looks?

And I was just reading Ken's recomended settings for the Fly, and it said that after you break the gun in you can lower you dwell and mini reg pressure. How do you lower the mini reg pressure?

wit da screw in the side of it.

The other reason is that you're pitting the force of the LPR, multiplied by the mechanical advantage granted by the ram assembly, against the pressure of the main chamber, and the former has to be greater than the latter, or the exhaust valve cannot open.

You mean the velocity screw?

Emmit
04-29-2004, 07:18 AM
You mean the velocity screw?
yes...increased pressure means increased velocity...so when you turn your velocity up you're turning up the output pressure of the minireg. You're opening the minireg to allow more air into the marker.

"after you have broken the gun in you can begin to lower the dwell as well as the mini reg pressure.dont go below 8 on the dwell and 40 on the lpr as performance begins to suffer."

That's from Ken's recomended settings. So does he mean you can lower velocity only after you've broken it in? I'm confused. :)

Emmit

after you've broken the marker in, things work differently which will in turn allow you to lower everything...

Sounds like something I'd say (http://www.angel-owners.com/showpost.php?p=196999&postcount=9) (or, at least, something I'd quote.)
