View Full Version : Removing a feedneck by Strap wrench
Not much to say as the pics will do it all.
This is a Snap-on Model ya826a Strap wrench that will go down to a diameter of 1" which will work for most feednecks.
As in some or most conditions you will/might have to heat up the feed neck to loosen up the loctite but in this instance I didn't have to.
Edit: Even though you see a Check it low rise I was using in this pictorial for a example ONLY, I have already removed the stock twist lock feed with the wrench before hand. And in the last pic my thumb is pointing in the direction or removal. Counter-clockwise.
Hope this helps some,
Hep

mine just isn't comming off, Im wondering if Impact wanted to mess with my head by like JB welding the feedneck into the gun as a practical joke... well I'll try the strap wrench again, but hey, when you heat the feedneck, do I boil it or use a propane torch?

I used a ziploc bag with very hot water in it. Then put it in the feedneck and left it there for about 5 minutes. After that I was able to take it off by hand, where before I wasn't able to do it with a strap wrench.

I was the same way on mY Speed. I tried ALL of the tricks!!!!
Finially I just decided that I was replacing my stock rise with an A+, so I just took a vice grip to it!!!!

I found that a hair dryer didn't put out sufficient heat to loosen the lock-tite on my daughter's 04Speed, so I bought one of those small butane torches.
Werkt like a champ!

I have always had mixed results. With my led's I couldn't get that feedneck off at all. We broke 2 strapwrenches, and tried everything. Finally I talked to WDP and they said to drill a hole through the feeneck and put a screwdriver in the hole and turn for leverage. Did it and worked like a charm...lol my led was the only gun I had to do that with. My Speed feedneck came right off though as did my IR3's feedneck. Some of my lcd's took a lot of heating of the neck to get them off with a strap wrench though.

I had a lot of trouble changing my old speed's feed neck, Hair dryer wouldn't work, ended up using a blow torch, still didn't work, finally it came down to my friend clamping down on the neck with vice grips and twisting while I twisted the body in the opposite direction and even with the we had a lot of trouble.
you use that snap-on strap wrench and you wont have a problem

i drilled 2 holes in mine. they are concealed when teh neck is assembled and strap wrenches blow. we share a mutual hate for one another.

i tried every trick in the book, i got a new ccm feedneck, so idecided to just drill two holes in the neck, and use a metal rod to twist. That worked great

try this guys.
Get a soft hammer (plastic faces) or a normal hammer and a small block of ally. Lightly tap the top of the feedneck with either the soft hammer, or the ally block and normal hammer. This breaks the bond the loctite has made, and the feedneck will come off by hand.
Worked every time i've taken one off, and i've done a few.
