2004 NPPL Huntington Beach
The NPPL announced a new style of turf for Huntington Beach. They also announced testing for "cheater guns" with bouncing triggers and strictly enforced penalties at Huntington Beach next week according to NPPL Rules Commissioner Phil Dominguez.
Get your guns ready for Huntington Beach!
No More Cheater Guns
From Phil Dominguez
We at the NPPL are working hard to insure the safety of everyone that attends our events, from the player, support personal, spectators and our Staff we need to maintain a safe enviorment. We feel that markers that dont comply with our rules and regulation pose a possible danger to anyone that comes in contact with the marker when not in use on the field during a game. We have developed a devise that is connected to a bullistic chronograph, that will count trigger pulls, how many balls fired and detect ramping, speed, and even the dwell. Those of you that get caught will be going home, your team will go home, and your points taken away.
You have been warned, It is strongly suggested that all you captains attend the captains meeting as there are a number of rule changes. For those of you that dont feel that a cheater gun is a accident waiting to happen, let me explain. The barrel condom you are required to put on your gun is only designed to stop the first ball. and some are better than others, so lets say that you just got off the field and you set your gun down in the staging area and some one touches the trigger for what ever reason and the gun goes off into some cheater mode and shoots twenty balls into the staging area, some one is going to lose a eye or worse. how many times have you set your marker down and it fired.
The guns that have D-bounce can be fixed without the use of a computer, what were looking for is a board on any gun that will send more balls then trigger pulls and ramp up the speed at the same time, you know if you had a cheater board installed or not, they dont sell them off the shelf. This robot was designed by our scrutineer who is a licensed regsistered engineer, who has designed two guns. With this robot you will be able to set how many times you want the trigger to be pulled and then the robot will count how many balls were fired and at what speed they left the gun up to as many pulls of the trigger that he dials up. The chronograph judge is trained to inspect while checking you into the field, If he finds a questionable marker he will contact the scrutineer and then it will be determend then how far the testing goes by Dave.
In short, if you have one leave it at home, its not worth getting caught or having a person get injured when it goes off like a machine gun laying on the table when someone bumps the gun.
well it's about time they started enforcing this :fade:

the new turf sounds almost like astroturf...and with the sand underneath it it should make for some interesting break outs etc...
I'll have plenty of pics and stories when I get back guys!

what does astro turf feel like? is it kinda like grass?

astro turf is horrid.... artificial grass is what your thinking of... there is a difference. astro turf is usually really thin and feels like carpet, meaning you get some serious burns on it from sliding ... artificial grass is usally a longer cut of carpet, it basically is made to simulate real grass, it to can tend to burn but i find it a little easier on the body.

as matt said AstroTurf is basically carpet, hence the reason you see NFL players always wearing long sleeves, or special pads etc when they play on AstroTurf. The nice thing about what this stuff would be that it'll be laying on top of the sand so it'll be soft, so hopefully it won't be so hard on you as it is in circumstances like an NFL stadium.

this is going to be funny you know how all these players have lent there aweosme rope makin gats to the debounce crutch well , lets see when their beloved bounce is gone how well they fair!! I think it's great , as you will see far fewer players claiming I hit 20+ bps constantly with my agg gat and more I can maintain 15 bps easy. :)

yea it sounded like carpet to me but i couldnt get through my head that they would use that, i mean some people are gonna get horrible carpet burns from diving and sliding, i think i would rather play in the sand personally
but who knows, maybe it's different

well this is what they use to use at the vet, where the philadelphila eagles played..man it sucked, teams hated playing thier, so when the built the new field, they didn't use it no more (thank god)plus this is how alot of players got hurt, astro turf sucks man! be sure to wear some skins or something! good luck to everyone, go Dogs!

It also has a thin layer of rubber under the grass. baseball players use the rubber bottom as an advantage to jump higher. to catch a ball over their head. But i do know that Adrenaline games came out with their own turf which is made really well. and dont look like it will give you burns, and it has little rubber pieces in it like little dirt pieces. i gues to lessen the little burn you probably wont get anyway. So hope that its that kind.and ull be in the clear. note if it is, then it should look like real grass, and have lil rubber pieces in it laying around.

trust me....I hope it's not "REAL" AstroTurf at all....something nice to go on top of the sand would be fine, but I really don't want to play on carpet if you guys know what I mean.

It probably won't be real astro turf ever, as Astro turf is going out of business or filed for bankruptcy from what I've heard on the news. Either way, My team and I are going to the event next week. I'll keep an eye out for ya.

Yeah let us know how the ground is. If its anything like real astro turn, burns are the least of your worries. THe biggest problem is the lack of sliding ability. This means for those kneeling slides or supermans your likely going to pull something since many paintballers arent used to the sliding methods for that ground type. twisted or broken ankles, wrists and hyper extended knees and elbows are what im worried about for the players. Id prefer shagg carpeting, lol. At least youd be playin like a pimp...

Their robot won't be perfect, though it'll catch the "stupid cheaters".
The smart ones will set a cheat-activation sequence, like one long trigger pull, then two short ones, then a long one, to enable "cheat mode". The robot'll never detect it.
Whaddya mean, I do copy-protection work and thus think in devious ways!? You must be talking about someone else.

Skyball was pretty strict, they were penalizing WAS'd timmy's with low debounce

well i'm sure every turf is different, but the turf my school really sucked the first few months. They put these tiny black rubber beads barley bigger than a grain of sand over the turf, and those things burned like crazy because they'ed get in you sock, or if you were tackled they'ed get down your shirt....grrr they were aweful

there was speculation for a while that either the PSP or NPPL was going to introduce a rule that said an Intimidator set to a debounce of 1 would be illegal.

"you know if you had a cheater board installed or not, they dont sell them off the shelf."
I saw this quote and it made me think, cant any board be a cheater if you adjust it to do so, I have had problems with my 4 being too sensitive and the gun vibrations fire it and it bounces like crazy.

well i know of some WAS boards that have a switch which will save different settings
for example, you'll save 1 setting with no bounce that you will use for chronoing etc and then flip the switch and get mad bounce
so that's definately a cheater board

that's pretty much what HK utilizes with the 3 point switch...the WAS was designed as a cheater board, meant mostly to be used as a cheater board. same with the frenzy...both ramp the dwell and bounce like crazy

Im not a hundred percent sure but the 3 point switch is to turn the eye on and off. not to be used as a way of cheating. although my team mate almost lit my leg up before a game when we were waiting it went off on him. thats why bounce is being cracked down on so much.

Yes
Redz Hurricanes in Tampa
and 2 teams in Denver. They are not taking this lightly.

when they check for bounce do you get banned if it bounces once, or does if have to bounce continuously or something? im just worried someones timmy will go off and then lots of money will be wasted for nothing
Emmit

If the ref can make it bounce at the chrono you're supposed to get until you have to go on the field to get it to stop bouncing. If you're caught on the field, they send it to the robot, the robot is programmed to only pull a certain number of BPS, if they get more than the programmed BPS out of it then your entire team is disqualified for the Event. Just don't test fate plain and simple.

Definitely...I find it funny that people think they can beat the robot....you can't. Ask Redz Hurricanes and Team 665-Almost Evil.

they should make Tourny specific guns that can somehow beem information to a computer station near the field but for now the robot idea looks like its working great, There is already a way to send information back on forth in Angel markers they should be able to re work that information being sent to view how the marker is shooting and a way to boost the signal.

of course there's always been the thought that they should have a special board just for NPPL etc...well of course the counter arguement to this is that at that point you stop people from being able to choose their own equipment blah blah blah...it's people trying to make it like NASCAR and the old school "STOCK" cars that of course are preaching this...IMO I don't care what you're shooting so long as it abides by the rules set forth by the NPPL. Did you read the rules??? Don't know....Did you sign the sheet before you checked into your first event stating that you did read the rules??? If you're playing you did;) Did your captain go to the captains meeting where they went over this stuff??? I hope so because mine goes to each one;)
At the end of the day you're responsible for yourself, and your gear...and your responsible to yourself and your team...don't be the one that gets your entire team DQ'd. I can honestly say I wouldn't want to be the guy that got my team kicked out of the event and then still have to ride with them, and room with them...and take the plane home with them:yikes: Although I know our team has said if you get the team DQ'd you might as well hang it up right then and there because you won't be part of the roster any longer.

That is the right attitude. If all teams would abide by that I think the situation would take care of itself. Unfortunately there is a lot of pressure placed on folks to win by sponsors etc and they will do anything to win. Sad but true.

I think its great that they are enforcing the cheater board issue. Besides the Redz Hurricanes, two teams were recently caught at Denver for illegal guns. Maybe the CFOA and NXL will start enforcing the issue. In my opinion, cheater boards take away the skill to be able to play at the pro or Div. 1,2,3 level.

Yeah I think one of the teams just picked up a sponsorship from WDP, and got their markers the night before. I guess they could'nt set them up right, and got booted for a bouncing gun.

Those are unsubstantiated rumors at this time. The NXL has not come out and said that it will allow any amount of bounce. However....from what I know from talking to a couple of different people they certainly aren't looking for it either.

said team not only set up their own markers with nobody on the team having used an Angel since the LCD, but also turned down the help of someone who does know what he's doing, additionally those markers never made it down to the WDP booth before playing either (at least to my knowledge).
