I believe they are about the same if not cheaper through the sponsors that had them, call and ask. That's my recommendation:wink: I would strongly suggest it.

Please, tell me that WDP wouldn't use a PMI reg on their new pre-set tank. I've had several PMIs and two out of the three have leaked from the pin valves and/or the fill nipples.

DITTO!
I've had PMI's and BullDogs leak on me, which made me think that it was a normal occurence until I got CenterFlag regs.

Believe me, we aren't the only two guys who've had the problem either. It's pretty common with PMI regs. I've never had any problems with my Crossfire or Nitro Duck.

I hate to be obtuse here, but why would they release a new LCD adjustable? They already have one and it works fine!

I have a Warped/PMI 68/4500. It Hasn't leaked. I think the new preset air is the perfect choice for a speed or 4 or anything low pressure for anyone who doesn't have $500 for a lcd. I think i will get one for my next low pressure gun plus the loksock is cool.

Yeah but they are a lot heavier than the MacDev and new SP Max-Flow. Plus I've seen a lot of people have problems with them.

Everything I've seen says that it's a PMI bottle and a PMI reg, so I guess the answer would be yes.

Yeah, I think most decent shops will convert an HP to an LP for $20 or $25. PMI sells a conversion kit.

I like my pure energy 5000psi,... just about ready to have it sent out to have my old reg replaced wioth the new style and have the output pressure dropped to 400-450psi:)
If you are just going to replace the reg out anyways, why not just replace it with a better bottle reg altogether???
jdp72
04-16-2004, 01:39 PM
Replace it with a better flowing, higher quality fixed OR adjustable reg. I'm sure if you shop around you can find some place to do it for $50 return shipped.
Personally I would probably spend more money for a higher quality reg, as your marker is really only as good as your weakest link... Why spend $1000 on a marker and go cheap on the bottle reg? Is it really worth not spending an extra $40?
jdp72
04-16-2004, 02:35 PM
I would say a MaxFlo, MacDev or CenterFlag has better flow rates and is much more consistent and reliable.
The last thing you want is for the bottle reg to starve the marker (causing shoot-down under high ROF) or causing hiccup fluctuations (which cause varying velocity issues).
It kills me when I see an Angel with the absolute cheapest (not in cost but in quality) bottle reg on it... My feeling is that most of the problems people have with Angels (which really have nothing to do with the marker itself) can be associated with the use of cheap bottle regs, old or cheap paint, and bad paint to barrel match.
Jouster
04-16-2004, 02:45 PM
Well,... how many different regs are out there? PMI's fixed reg isnt any good?
Many people feel that PMI's fixed reg has very poor recharge and responsiveness. I happen to concur; hook a PMI tank up to an Angel 4 Fly set in demo mode, and you'll quickly hear yourself outshooting the tank.
That said, there's no reason to jump to an adjustable, unless you want to get rid of the mini-reg. I use a CrossFire 70ci "stubby" tank on my marker, and it has never let me, or my marker, down.

If you want to reduce weight, then an adjustable cylinder reg is what you want. This way you can remove your mini-reg.
If you want consistancy, I would recommend a Crossfire Preset cylinder. For $65 they will replace a 4.5k reg, or $55 for a 3k reg. E-mail Chris Havlock
cf88reg@ameritech.net
to set it up. Firemedic30 & I did this a couple of months of ago & we've been impressed. Here's Crossfire's Angel/Demo Video link:
http://www.crossfireinc.com/reg_action_video.asp
And yes the regulator threads are interchangeable.
I Hope This Helps

Yo,... the only reg that you mentioned that will actually replaced the reg on my tank is the maxFlo and thats 225 beans. The other replace the mini reg on the gun,... I dont understand. Do you want me to keep the reg I have on my tank now and get a new reg for the Fly to handle the higout from the reg I have on my tank now?
Not sure where you are getting your info...but they all obviously sell bottle regs...as well as CrossFire...as well as WDP. Not sure if they will sell you just the reg, but I'm sure a authorized dealer could obtain one and install it for you.
You can get the low pressure 420 from CenterFlag...

You can buy the Max-Flo directly off Smartparts website, or through Paintballgear.com
I tried just ordering the Reg from crossfire. They offered to replace it for me. With the CPSC involved
http://www.warpig.com/paintball/articles/news/042404cpsctank/index.shtml
I bet the manufacturers will stop selling directly to the public.

P.S. I talked with Crossfire Directly

That's a good question. I know the 3k & 4.5k threads are the same pitch, just a different length, I wouldn't be suprised if there are more differences. Havlock was very knowledgeable and helpful. It couldn't hurt to send him an email.

I have a 5000psi tank though, a 4500 reg would work with my tank? I mean if I threw a 4500psi reg on my tank it then would be a 4500psi tank what what im concerned with is maybe the threads are different for each reg? I dont know,... I want consistant. I want a screw in fixed reg too.
Right now I can't think of one non-standard bottle reg... And yes you can of course use a 4500 psi rated reg on a 5000 psi bottle, just remember to NOT fill it to 4500 psi anymore. Not sure where you can get 5K fills, but around here there was only one place where you could get 5K boost fills, and they only did it for like 2 weekends and stopped it for some reason.
Rain-Man,
Yeah if I were a bottle reg manufacturer I would only sell to to airsmiths, not sure how much liability there is... but I just have this vision of a kid handtighening the bottle reg and then filling it up, or something stupid like that.
I doubt most people would have the tools necessary to remove and install the bottle regs, without damaging things in the process.

JDP72 - When Crossfire replaced my reg, they used the correct fittings. 5k burst, 3.5k gauge, etc. With that being said, any attempt to overpressurize it would burst the disc. I am sure there are 8k+ burst discs out there. The question is "can Crossfire's reg handle it." Not being employed by Crossfire I have no way of knowing without contacting Chris Havlock, or anyone else @ Crossfire. While Crossfire's reg is "rounded" it can be secured & removed like any other, with some ingenuity.
Sorry if that sounds harsh, I'm tired. :drools: I think we're saying the same things.
tribaloverkill - There are adjustable screw in regs. I wasn't happy with mine which is why I switched. It just didn't flow enough.
