a terrible freak accident has caused the death of a woman. She was struck by what must be the tank, but it says cartridge.

Are you guys sure it was a tank? With them saying cartridge and that it flew off the back of the "gun," it may have been one of the WallyWorld specials w/ a 12 gram. If one of those Blade markers had the plastic break (which I've seen many do) with a new cartridge in there it would have had enough force to kill someone if it hit her in the temple. Just wondering. You'd think that when unfortunate like this happens that the journalists would talk to a field owner or shop owner to find out what kind of equipment malfunctioned. I did a tv interview for a local news station once after a toddler drowned in the appartment swiming pool because I was an aquatics director at the time. It just makes sense to me to find out as much detailed info as possible instead of trying to be the first person w/ the report. Just my 0.02.

I'm fairly certain it was likely a tank, the reporter probably just didn't have all the info as they wanted to get the breaking news to the public, and if the reporter wasn't knowledgeable in the sport they just used terms they thought were correct.
Now a field owner I know, and I've seen it as well, has seen CO2 bottles that started to unthread at the reg instead of the marker...when this happens if it's not caught the pressure of the liquid becoming a gas turns that little CO2 tank into a missle. They had a HPA tank where the reg blew off one day at the fill station it hit the N2 bottle, denting it, and ricocheted and flew 150+ yards out into the field, fortunately no one was walking past at that moment to get hurt.
These tanks are not a joke, much like the oil in the tank thread we had, everyone should understand and respect that tank they have under their arms.

Bad accident to have happen. But those tanks are dangerous. Who would have thought that we would hold a canister containing thousands of psi close to our internal organs.

DAMMMMMNNN thats just sad and wrong, and i dont htink they should press charges against the kid, but he shouldve been looking at wat he was doing, that was his stupid mistake, i hate it when i hear incidents like this, but at least this was an accident, i hate those ppl who go and shoot their neighbors dog, they are bad for teh sport and mess it up, liek the ppl in alaska that shot the natives with frozen paintballs, they are a bad influence for teh sport and gonna get it banned for all of us, but still that kid shouldve been more attentive

At my local field 2 weekends ago, a hose blew right in my face. it wipped around and smacked the tank filler in the leg. He was pretty sure that it was fractured. when the hose hit the ground a metal end about 4 inches long broke off and flew and hit my team mates leg. I almost crapped my pants. this stuff is nothing to skrew around with. The owners is kind of a crack head and kinda just didnt care about what could have happend. he was too worried about his equipment. i dont think i will be going to that field any more. just be as safe as possible. and god bless the family of who this tragic event has happened too.

my max flo doesnt have any loctite. ...... its a sad thing tho. my heart goes out to the persons family

well there's no reason an adjustable tank would need loctite, since you never have to twist it and air pressure will secure it tight enough on the threads,
on a screw in or co2 tank however, you always have to twist it to take it off so.....

I know that most shops I deal with use at least Red permanent loctite when they replace a valve (ie if they put in an antisiphon tube, or just replace it with an on/off a new pin valve etc)
however that doesn't mean that Murphy can't show up, and it seems that this day Murphy not only showed up, but he was in a really bad mood.

that pisses me off a lot. watch the video an maybe someone will see what i mean. mainly the way the woman in the car with the CO2 tank and the news guy make the story out to be that this is some dangerous sport. yeah there are some but it is because of people neglecting to follow safety guidelines. i dont know if that was the case, but there were a couple of things that were in the report that really made the sport seem like it just got a real bad image to this town.
First off to me it seemed like the cop an the news team made a bigger deal about this then they the should have. especially focusing on the cop pulling the spyder out of the bag and laying all the parts out like it was confiscated from some drug cartels arsenal, it seem kinda un necessarry for them to show it.
This next thing is just somethin i noticed If you look at it you can see whoever the kid was he put an expansion chamber on it and the barrel looked like a green SP tear drop, so you can kinda figure that this kid knows something about the sport or at least that he doesnt have to leave his marker bone stock. but then if you look at his asa, they still left the tanks valve attached and the valve has a anti syphon kit on it. so did the kid put the kit on the tank, not knowing what he was doing? that could have been why the bottle unscrewed from the valve. thats just a guess but thats what i noticed, especially since the guy from the shop said the tank didnt come from him. but the kid obviously wasnt intending on killin anyone whether or not the bottle was his fault.
the last thing was the lady in the car, everyone is free to their own opinion, thats what makes our country great but sometimes it can do some damage i think. if you were a mother or father and you were watching this on the news and you hear "this accident is causing some mothers to rethink the safety of paintball." and you have this lady saying how shes not so sure she wants to get her tank filled for her son, that would probably give you a real negative outlook on the sport.
i dont know if anyone saw it by i remember my mom giving me a call telling me how she saw on i believe Good Morning America, an they were talking about some girl who is blind because a boy shot her in the eye, an she said they had a man from cousins paintball trying to support the sport an give it a good word, but they kept bringing up all of these accidents and statistics and were just walking all over the dude. stuff like this isnt right. yeah it is sad that this lady died from the accident, but something needs to be said to the networks. i think that the producers should really think about what they are putting on the air of the networks.
if i made any sense here someone let me know, maybe i was just throwing words on the page but thats my thoughts on all this.

WOW brad that couldnt of been said better, i was trying to sum it up above but i couldnt quite get to it like u said tho i did say the kid wasnt paying attention and shouldve know wat he was doing, goo dwork. But i still pissed me off sooo much. I also said how the news made it appear so dangerous, damn biased newsreporters taht dont know jack about pball :pisss: YA on these shows about the accidents, first of all the kid who shot the girl in the eye, that was not followign safety guidleines, then THATS NOT PBALL, if it was pball theyd be in a regulated secure field with safety gear , that kid was also an idiot, i hate it I jsut wanna scream and go teach that kid a lesson, if they dont want to folow guidleines tehn they shouldnt play, i could go on but im tiring myself from being so pissed
