hey,
I was just told in a previous post that WDP will not be developing PDA software for the Force 4. can anyone tell me if this is true??? I asked the dealer before I purchased my force if there would be such thing. he told me yes. in my force 4 manual it states "....by using a PDA software program that is available on our webpage - www.wdp.tv"
so am I a victim of false advertising or is the software available to me???
thanks
Carter

If the MT's say it's not coming out, then it's not coming out.

Perhaps we can get a group of A4 owners to work together on VB project. I'm down for helping with the coding process.

My IrDA skills are a little rusty, but I've started to try to decode the transmission. My laptop (which is where my IrDA port is) is being a little flaky about picking up the transmission, though.
I'm starting to suspect that there's a bit of negotiation before the A4 will transmit its data. In that case, I'll have to pick up something that'll allow me to pick up the data and retransmit it, and I'll need access to another A4.
Does anyone know if the IR3 and the A4 talk to one another?

Hi, WDP, I'm doing something that you do want to do. Can I have some help?
That will go over real well...

I'm sure WDP would much rather someone didn't attempt to do a black market software release. I've started a basic VB template and next week will be determining the IR communication process.

milling, warranty and colors are the 3 biggest things.
Everything is discussed in some other threads asking the exact same question in the thread title I believe.

Jouster, let me know if you can obtain a signal. My work on the VB layout is going slow but nevertheless progessing. However if you (or nobody else) can generate a signal from the marker it doesn't make sense to continue my R&D.

It ain't IrCOMM, and it ain't IrDA. I emailed WDP, and I'm buying a simple IR reader that I'll take raw data from. Wish me luck, and I'll share what I find, but by all means develop in parallel.

The programming codes and communication protocols are something that we do not disclose. The A4 software will be released shortly through our web site.

Greetings.
I am currently trying to ascertain the status of the Palm Pilot control program for my A4, promised to me in the owner's manual and elsewhere.
If it is not available--as I have heard indications it may not be--I would like whatever technical specifications you can release to me regarding the IR protocol used to communicate between Angels and other Angels and between Angels and Palm Pilots (if, indeed, there is any difference).
My initial investigation seems to dissuade me from the notion that it's a simple IrDA or IrCOMM connection, but I'm hesitant to start throwing guessed IR sequences at the receiver, since it'll cost me $200 every time I manage to fry the board by telling it that dwell should be 5700 milliseconds. ;)
My thanks in advance for your reply.

Many thanks.
I'm really concerned that you're just saying this to keep me quiet, so to speak. I've figured out most of the protocol now, including a couple of the, er, more "fun" features. I don't want to do anything scary like setting a deadline at which I'll release my software, so if you can provide me with a date when yours will be available, I'd feel much better.
I honestly don't want to release my software, since it's a danger to (if nothing else) the resale market for Angels if everyone can set their shot counter to 500.
Finally, if you're interested, I can help you redesign the protocols in a far more straightforward and secure way. (md5'ing with a secure salt, that sort of thing.)
Your friendly local Electrical Engineering and Computer Science major,
Dan
P.S. The software and its source code is kept in a PGPdisk with a 4,096 bit key secured by a passphrase of over one hundred characters, and I have no intention to release it, even if you say you're not developing A4 software, with all of its features enabled.
