Those of you with Z boards... do your EvoII's spin slower than those with Y boards when there are no balls in the loader?
When I installed my Z board and put it side by side with my friend's 100% stock Y board EvoII and ran them with 0 balls in them (the motor just spinning), I noticed that the Z board EvoII was VISIBLY and AUDIBLY slower than the Y board EvoII. Again, there were no balls in the hopper and they were just spinning side by side...
Please advise...

yep...Sparco asked the exact same question not a week ago...
put a pod of paint in there and then turn it on, you'll see/hear the paddles spin fast until there's no paint left, then it suddenly slows down. The only reason I can think of for this is that there's something in the programming of the board that allows it to realize that as long as the eye is being broken it's feeding...when the eye stops being broken it's obviously not feeding anymore and hence it doesn't need to spin as fast with an empty hopper, so until you reload it won't speed back up.

Emmit hit the nail on the head.
The speed of the loader is based on the detection of the eye. The loader is noticably faster with paint but without it the loader appears to operate slower.
Battery efficiency is less than desirable though. After a case and a half with brand new Energizer max batteries I was getting a blinking red light during sustained strings.

The drawback with the Zboard is that it runs at a higher voltage(18v) than the Y(12v), so it draws alot more juice from the batteries.

So basically we are back to the problem with the original board, battery hog?

I heard the Z was easier on the batteries... i guess not
I didn't put any balls in the hopper because I was too busy scratching my head wondering if I got an X board instead of a Z board :)
Thanks for putting my mind at peace.

If I can get 2-3 cases per set of batteries I can work with that. As long as the feed rate of loader is as advertised. I pick up 6-packs of Energizers Max for $4.94

bah...batteries are a small price to pay when you consider what we pay for event paint....btw I get mine from work:yikes:
However typically I put a fresh set in for Tournaments, and I usually use a set for 2 practices and then I call it quits....and that's stretching it.

The Home Depot had a special. Needless to say I racked up a $50 bill on batteries. Seems overkill? But those 60+ batteries will last me what should be 150 cases and I intend to shooting that many before they expire.
