14". Any longer and the balls will start to slow down in the barrel.

And you use more air and become inefficient.

there is no need for a barrel longer than 14" IMO
and this thread should probably be in the
LOADERS/AIR SYSTEMS/BARRELS forum

300fps at the exit of the barrel is 300fps at the exit of the barrel...doesn't matter what barrel length you're using it's still 300fps.
as for being more or less efficient....2 inches is not going to make nearly enough difference to matter or else everyone would be using 10 inch barrels to get the most efficiency out their markers.

lol look at my sig. i have both tips for my DYE, for some reason the 16" really screws up my shots somehow..not quite sure how but a LOT more inconsistant shots and range, and a lot more ball breaks...

Personally, I prefer 10-12" barrels. But if you are considering between 14 and 16, I would go with the 14 because longer barrels seem a little clumsy on the field (snapshooting, bunkering, running etc.) Also, the extra two inches will cause more friction on the paintball, which in turn will slow the ball down causing more gas consumption to keep the paintball up to desired speed. But it is all preference.

LazyA, read Emmit's post.
cbounds, IMO = In My Opinion
I like a good long barrel to push air bunkers aside...
14 is good, 16 is nice.... it sort of depends on the field too.
But 14 is all around my fave.

while you may have read it, did you comprehend what you're reading?

Thog had asked me to read your post Emmitt, and I was just relaying the message back to him that I did. Did I comprehend it you asked? Well it was written in English and pretty straight foward so the answer to your question is yes, I did understand it. ;)

I apologize....I always thought a paintball only needed 8" of barrel length to get up to the desired velocity. Then on top of that an extra 2-4" for guidance (accuracy). So ideally all you really need is 10-12" of barrel length for proper effiency. My eariler post, I was just trying to say the added barrel length will slow the paintball down a little, so wouldn't you have to turn your velocity up to reach the desired velocity you want?
Emmit

velocity is measured at the exit of the barrel...not 6 or 8 inches down the barrel...so at 6 or 8 inches it doesn't matter what the ball is doing since you're measuring it at the exit of the barrel...so to recap....a ball leaving a 10 inch barrel is exactly the same as a ball leaving a 16 inch barrel...

I think everyone would agree with you there ;)
