View Full Version : I think we need a sticky up here...
I remember acoefam1 had a article from pgi about your lpr pressure and dwell.. I think that needs to be sticky'd... I see many questions about it on the speed forum.
I agree it would be real helpful, and all these new people getting speeds wont make pointless threads they can just check there. I agree with Bena
Thankyou...
Now all we need is Acoefam1 to post it!

If one of the Mods agrees I'll do it.

As requested:
You'll need a Chrono or access to one for both of these:
LPR:
-Set it to the recommended pressure in the manual (82 for a Speed)
-Shoot across a chrono and set your velocity where you want it (295 for example).
-Now remove one shim at a time until you have to make a MAJOR change in your mini reg to maintain the desired FPS.
-Add back one shim, reset your velocity and you're done.
The theory behind this is that now you're using the minimum amout of air to operate the pneumatics of the gun. I would be a bit wary of this one as it may result in some drop off on long strings. Maybe add two shims vice one.
Dwell:
-Set you dwell at a ploint where you know it's excessive (gun is very loud)
-Shoot across the chrono and set your velocity accordingly (again 295 for example)
-Lower your dwell 1 ms at a time while still firing over the chrono.
-You will eventually reach a point where your velocity drops off dramitically.
-From this point raise your dwell back up 1 or 2 ms and you're done.
Theory behind this is that once the ball leaves the barrel or first 6-7 inches of a two stage barrel to push any more air after the ball is a waste.
Both of these set the gun to use the minimum amount of air to accomplish the mission, fire a ball at 295 fps. Therefore you should get more shots out of each fill. and quiet the gun down as well.
Give it try.

werd ... ok cool Im gonna try .

it sounds like a lot of work but its the sure way to time your gun without gauges, thanks ac
Or you can just do what the top tech's recommend, and save yourself some time.........

it's basically the theory used to describe how to set the dwell on the old LED's. You set your dwell high, shot over the chrono while turning the dwell down until your velocity started dropping then you were done. Dwell was set.

Emmit's right it's how you set the dwell etc. with the old LEDs but it's worked for my IR3 and now my Speed as well.
Yea,
my speed too.
We need this sticky'd cause its been asked way to many times...

I did this after about 3 weeks of shooting my speed, sized my paint a little tighter and noticed a BIG change in efficiency. I was getting 1/2 a case on 3000 psi (68).

I take it this was an improvement (1k out of a 68/3000 sounds damn good to me)?? If so I'm glad it worked for ya.
