AIR gauge inaccurate

My gauge started reading funny this weekend. It was displaying inaccurate psi readings. It was jumping around in the 4000 psi range when I know it was only filled to 3000 psi. So I let all the air out and the gauge started giving lower readings but it still shows aroung 2000psi and it is empty.
Any idea what is he cause.

did u change the batteries recently?

empty the tank, unscrew the tank from the reg and take out the batteries and put them back in, let it recalibrate and then screw the tank back on
