Hey guys I was just wondering if they will do the switch at cup... say if you have a micro switch board and want opto, etc. and if the board itself will be for free.
And if not do we have to ship it to somewhere to get it switched?
basically what im asking is.. can i goto cup with my angel and have them switch the board for me for free, no questions asked. Thanks guys

This is a quote from a post called "Press Release(9/27)" from the Product news section of this forum. It was originally posted by Jason and it contains a letter written by Frazer.
Press Release (9/27)
In response to the growing concern for MEMX users from the 9/20 press release, I have contacted Frazer to sort out some details:
Here is the email I received from him, this morning:
Hi Jason,
What people can upgrade to is as follows,
If you have a mem 2 or mem 3 board it will have a micro switch, this
board can be upgraded to mem 3a this will have the new version of cops
on it but will still have the micro switch.
If you have a mem 4 or a mem 5 board this will already have the opto
switch, this can be upgraded to mem 6 and get the new version of the
cops software. This type of software upgrade will be free.
If some one has a micro switch board and they want to upgrade to an
opto board they will be able to give us there old micro switch board and
purchase a new mem 6 opto board. The fee for this upgrade has yet to be
finalized.
All the best,
Frazer Colley,

Jason,
If you get a chance, try to find out how they WDP plans to upgrade boards post-cup. Since it's not possible through the palm software, I can only hope that they'll let techs in the USA perform the upgrade... Mark from Impact sounded like he'd be able to do it after cup when I e-mailed him, but Bob (TAG) told me that WDP has said that the "upgrade equipment" is too expensive to a point where it's not feasible for a tech to own the equipment :/
If they say they'll just be doing board swaps like the LCD's I'll be clicking my heels since my plate spring is screwed anyway.

You can purchase an upgrade to the mem 6 in order to do this, I will need you to return the mem 3 board as well as $150 for the cost of the upgrade. This will be available at the start of November.

Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled about paying $150 for the new board but after I shot the champagne C&C they had as a demo at the Cup, I decided I had to have it. The demo btw, was running on mem 8 software.

Does anyone know if the software upgrade from MEM3 to MEM3A will be free?
I like my microswitch just fine, I just want COPS to operate faster (it works, it just limits me to about 9 bps)

OK OK HERES THE REAL POOP.AT THE CUP IF YOU HAD A SWITCH BOARD YOU COULD BE UPGRADED TO MEM 3 IF YOU HAD AN OPTO BOARD YOU COULD BE UPGRADED TO MEM 6.THERE IS NO MEM 8.THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEM 3-4-5 ON THE OPTA ARE THE COPS SETTINGS.YOU MAY SEND THE BOARD TO WDP AND THEY WILL UPGRADE THE OPTA TO MEM 6 IF YUOU COULDNT GET IT DONE AT THE CUP.IF YOU WANT TO UPGRADE FROM A SWITCH BOARD ITS 150.00 IN EXCHANGE.DONT SWEAT IT IF YOU HAVE A SWITCH BOARD IT WORKS JUST AS WELL AS THE OPTA BOARD.NO BS!AS FOR THE REASON WE AS TECHS CANNOT UPGRADE THE BOARD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH COST OF EQUIPMENT.THE ONLY WAY TO UPGRADE THE BOARD IS TO RE FLASH THE CHIP AND THAT CAN ONLY BE DONE WITH RAW DATA.THAT WOULD ALLOW ANYONE TO HAVE TOTAL ACCESS TO INCRIPTED DATA THAT IS PROTECTED AND NOT FOR OUR EYES.

Just one little question, When you say upgrade or swap or anything like that does that mean you give your old board and get a new one..
If so can we keepthe old board and just buy a new one is that possible..
Thanks

no swap to another Opto since my plate spring is damaged and has been since I've gotten it. Can I do a swap like this?

yeah, anything that was by defect should be replaced for free, you have a 6 month warranty on stuff like that
