C.O.P.S. Failure???

Ok all, just got back from using my IR3 for only the second time and now my COPS won't pass selftest. I thought it might be the sensor rod so I changed it out with the one from the spares kit but still no joy. In fact it looks as if the rod isn't even reaching into the breech at all. Anybody got any ideas what might be wrong??? Do you all even use the COPS??

Just looking for some ideas before I end up sending the gun back to Warped Sportz and have them fix it. I mean I've only had the gun a few weeks so the OEM warranty should cover this.

acoenfam1, SuperFly's comment should be completely disregarded. The beauty of the iR3 COPS is that paint color does not affect it, meaning black paint is totally fine to use, its a pressure sensor not an eye. Secondly lower sensitivity doesnt make a difference if your cops rod isnt entering the breech, and if it isnt entering the breech it sounds like you may have damaged the cops sensor itself. Take off your grip frame and look at the place where the rod contacts. It is a yellow strip and if it looks cracked, broken, burnt, melted, shattered, bent or messed up in any way that is likely to be your problem.

No, dude, its not possible. I think you are missing the point. It is a physical impossibility for black paint to mess up an iR3 (unless its a HALO problem but that is irrellevant). Whatever happened to your friends iR3 had NOTHING to do with black paint.

but yeah, I've had this same problem. I don't know WHAT cracked my cops sensor. before I went out to play, it was fine. After I was back and was cleaning my gun, I noticed that I couldn't feel the cops rod in the breech. I open up the frame and sure enough, the sensor was cracked. I don't know if my bolt did this, or the HaloB (which was malfunctioning at the time) pushed that rec-field paint so hard onto the sensor that it cracked it.

Sounds strange doesn't it?

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't get to see Superfly's comment but from the sound of it it must have been pretty filpin' stupid! I know that it doesn't matter about the color of the paint shell that's one of the reasons I decided on an IR3. Anyway I sent the gun back to Warped today they're gonna fix it for me. I'm having em install one of the "Lasoya CLASS" triggers for me as well. By the way I've got one of the R11 bolts in my gun and I love it. I'll let you all know how the trigger works out if anyone's interested.

I already talked to poobrownhorse about the comment I made. He educated me on how the COPS worked. So there is a difference between stupid and ignorance. Ingorance is not knowing. I never was told how it works. Now I guess I have to tell you. My buddy has a Sivler C & C and he was using a ball that had black on one side, it wasn't sensing it so he called me up and asked what was wrong. I told him not to touch it anymore till I get there. Well when I got there I brought some yellow evil and tried it out. It worked just fine. Later on (after I printed the post) he tells me that he changed the rod cuz one was longer than the other. Must have worn down low. So you see thats not my fault on why I said it cuz that was my experience with the COP's. I never was told how it works. So the next time you call someone stupid think about all the stuff you don't know about. I mean I could call you stupid if you didn't know the the exact operation (i.e. range, cyclic rate, capacity, ect.) of an M9, M-16A2, M240 Golf, & M249 SAW or how fix them if they breaks. Next time be like poobrownhorse and listen. Thanks.

SuperFly, everyone jumped on you because you did not inform yourself properly. One of the basic features of the IR3, that is in even generic descriptions of the gun in ads like pbgear's, is the COPS function. While I don't agree on lashing out, I also don't agree with you coming on here and potentially misinforming someone else. I get my facts straight before I post an answer, I can only hope everyone else does as well. Spread the truth (facts) not lies or heresay, please. Thanks.

Sounds like a plan to me. I turned the sense all the way up to 12 but still no joy. Would grease under the sensor make the actuator rod not reach into the breech? That's the big reason I sent it back to Warped. I did call them before hand though and that's what they recommended. When I described the problem to them it took the tech about two senconds to say it was probably a damaged sensor. I didn't really want to mess with it seeing as it's still under warranty. Again thanks for the input gents.
